Your warm fuzzy of the day

In March 2008, we found a mom cat that had been abandoned in our apartment complex.  I named her Jill, after the Friends episode that was on TV (on Friends, Rachel had a sister named Jill).

She hid her five babies in a bush and wouldn't let me anywhere near her.  She was hissing, spitting, lunging, etc.  We had to borrow a humane trap and trap her.  I set it at 6 p.m. and finally caught her at around 11:30.  We set her up in an enormous dog crate on our enclosed porch and just let her settle in.  For days, I fed her but didn't bother trying to touch her, because she kept hissing and spitting and trying to claw me to death.  I would spend hours sitting next to her crate, reading out loud, to get her used to people and voices.  On the fifth day, I reached in to grab her water bowl, and she charged my hand.  I couldn't pull it out fast enough and BAM...she head butted me :)  She just wanted to be loved!  She started talking and chirping and turned into one of the sweetest cats I've ever met.

When we found her, she was covered in flea bites.  She had a flea allergy, so she was super itchy.  She had chewed and clawed her skin and had sores everywhere.  She was missing most of the hair on her back half and the remaining skin was all scaly.  She looked pathetic.

Here is a video of her baby Chauncey taking a few steps.

All the kittens were adopted in May, 2008.  Jill was finally adopted in January, 2009.  Yesterday was the kittens' fourth birthday.  I got a picture from Chauncey's people:

And Jill's family sent me this picture:

Both are very loved.  Chauncey lives in a studio in San Francisco with his two parents and another cat.  Jill lives in a house in San Jos? and is the best buddy to a 15-year-old autistic boy.  She developed a mast cell tumor over her eye that is inoperable because of its proximity to her eyelid, but the family is treating it like true pesties would, and I love them for it.

Anyway...just wanted to share the happy ending.  I'm always ready for people to disappoint me, so it's nice to get good news sometimes!
