Sometimes I want to smack the people of my generation...

My bff from high school just got engaged earlier this month.  I am super excited for her, she has been dating her FI for about 5 years.

She asked me to be a bridesmaid...by text (which is also how she announced her engagement).  Now we live far apart and don't get to see each other often so I can understand not doing it in person.  But at least pick up the phone and call.

Rant over.

    Rude.

If it makes you feel any better, though, my sister asked me to be her MoH on FB. ::eyeroll::

  • Wow! I'm a Gen-X, so I don't get it. I took my bridesmaids out to lunch or dinner to ask them.

I wasn't expecting anything like that.  I didn't do that for my BMs because done of us lived within 500 miles of each other but I did personally call each of them individually.  I don't know, I guess it shouldn't bother me as much as it does its just things like that make me hate technology.

  • If my friends live close, I would get together in person to announce.  On the other hand, I am limited when it comes to phones.  I use text and Facebook alot.  I am really appreciative as it opens the doors of communications for me.  Because of this, I am rather more than flexible when other people text.  I know I am not in the norms and I secretly hope this becomes the norms lol!

  • That just seems not very special at all! And this is coming from someone who will do almost anything not to actually pick up the phone.
  • That would have been a good time to call you. Who knows, maybe they're getting married via texts and she is starting early with the wedding theme!

Agreed!  I have only adopted in within the last year because apparently that is how everyone communicates these days.  I held out as long as I could and if I inniation connect I usually still call.

  • Ugh, that's terrible!  I HATE talking on the phone, but everyone ought to know that important things warrant a phone call, at the least!
  • I called or met up with each person.

When I announced my engagement, then a few years later my pregnancy, I called up the important people to tell them. Then it got posted on facebook for the rest.

I'm another one in this boat! I hate texting - although I will do it because I realize I'm the odd one out most of the time. I would much rather pick up the phone and talk to someone real quick (or not depending on who).

Ditto. So many people I know now use it, before going back to grad school I rarely ever used it.
