Carpenter Ant experience?

We have some and I think that I treated them wrong. Instead of thinking they were outside, I think they are in our wall. of course I just sealed the hole they were coming in through rather than just putting bait out.
Anyone have experience with these guys?

I do.  We discovered them when tearing down a wall.  Carpenter ants are nasty and can do a ton of damage.  We had exterminators out the next day. 

If we hadn't torn down that wall, we wouldn't have known we had them.  When the guy sprayed, he told us that you pretty much need to treat the entire perimeter of your house, inside and out, since they will just travel from one area to another once discovered.

My parents had them,  they

1-had a landscaper remove any dead/dying tree near the house

2- called an exterminator ASAP 

The problem resolved quickly.

Carpenter ants don't go after poison bait- you have to call an exterminator. Good luck.

It took the exterminator about 4 visits to get rid of them. Luckily, they had a guarantee, so I only had to pay once.

I think we might have them as well. We get them every spring around this time and will see 1-3 a day in the house. We spray around the house and also in the bathrooms and it seems to do the trick. But now this has me worried that they might be living in our walls! : (
