Poll - If you could have one feature in your house...

what would it be?  You can either add it to your current home or it can be a must for your next home - money no object!

I have wanted a fireplace in the dining room for I can't tell you how long!  When I was younger (like junior high), I loved watching This Old House on PBS and the beautiful fireplaces in the dining rooms got me every time.  I WILL have a fireplace in my dining room in my forever house.

So, what would your feature be and why?

A basement!  My house doesn't have one, and it drives me nuts.  You know how hard it is to store things like Christmas decorations without a basement OR an attic?

  • Dormer windows with window seats in them.

  • A green house attached to my mud room or kitchen that I could grow a full herb garden in.
  • A big wrap around front porch - so big that it's almost like another room.  I have always loved them.  We sacrificed with a small front porch in our current home and have no plans to ever move again.  And it's not something we can add but I sure would love one!  But am happy that we do have our little one although it only fits two people.
  • A nice big bathroom with a garden tub.

  • A sun room with one hell of a patio off it!

(It's in my in awhile file..emphasis on the while!)

This is my other want.  It will be awhile for us too!!!

  • A really amazing outdoor living room/kitchen. Big fireplace, comfy sofas, etc. maybe one day!
  • A gigantic whirlpool tub.  I had a nice one in the old house and I miss it so much!

  • A basement or attached garage!
  • Can it be outdoors?  If so, I'd say a bigger yard for the kids and dogs to play in with a fabulous patio with built in grill.

If it has to be inside, I'd say a big (updated) kitchen.  I love to cook, and it would be nice to cook and chat with guests and not feel crowded.

  • A nice big master bath with a walk-in shower and a soaking tub.  I am willing to sacrifice closet space or even an entire bedroom for this to happen.

The thing I want MOST is a 2nd story balcony. I have already installed the door, off the master bedroom; but as of right now it opens into thin air! So it stays locked at all times. But ONE DAY, I will build my balcony, and it will have a spiral stairway leading down to the backyard garden.

  • A decked out patio complete with a pool. We will have it one day but I would love it right now.
  • A large 2nd floor laundry room attached to our master closet.
  • a wrap around porch.
  • A garage, followed by acreage.
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • I want a huge, wrap-around porch. As it is now, we have an uncovered porch so there is no hope of me ever having my dream porch. I'm obsessed with big, wrap-around porches. We could never put one on our current house, which is our forever house.

This.  Grew up with one and would love my own.

  • Second floor bathroom.  My house is really old and originally didn't have a bathroom.  One of the previous owners added a bathroom on the first floor, but there's no bathroom on the second floor where all of the bedrooms are.

This is my most 'normal' answer.

I really want a dedicated dog room with a counter height dog bath, grooming table and a fridge/freezer to keep their food (we feed raw).

I also want a studio with a dedicated space for dyeing (vat, steamer, closed off so dye powders don't get on anything else).
