Learning to bake all over again :/

We are moving into our new apartment tonight and the landlord was good enough to replace the dish sanitizer with an oven so I can bake. Yes That part is awesome, but this oven is so different from what I am used to. My mom has a convection oven but I never used that function, I've always stuck with bake and broil. Well, this oven has 7(!!) functions; defrost mode, conventional oven top and bottom heating elements, fan oven, half grill, full grill, fan and grill, fan and bottom element. There are charts in the back of the user manual for the different functions, but it only lists baked goods under "fan and bottom element". Oy!

This is definitely going to be a learning experience. And of course the temperature gauge is only in Celsius and the oven is much smaller than I'm used. All that said, I'm still super pumped that I managed to get an oven!! Big Smile

  • I can't offer any advice but will say that you could really have some fun. For some early baking, try some stuff you don't mind getting messed up like box brownies instead of homemade cheesecake.

I am actually thinking that I might try one of my go-to cookie recipes and bake different batches (from the same dough) at different settings. Then I can see which one I like best. I will definitely be having fun with it! :)

  • for a rough C to F double the C# and add 30. and get yourself an oven thermometer. good luck-that instruction book sounds intimidating!!

  • Ditto an oven thermometer, I relied heavily on that thing when I lived in London.

Sounds like things are going well?
