Can we discuss glass shower surrounds? I'm working on pricing out the master bathroom shower surround and there are so many options. I'd like to know what everyone things of them. And maybe this will get the board moving a little too. Some of these are kind of specific so you don't have to answer all of them if you don't want to.
- Glass shower enclosures: Yay or Nay and why?
- Do you prefer to the ceiling or shorter than the ceiling?
- If the shower tile goes to the ceiling does the glass need to go to the ceiling as well?
- Should all of the panels and door be the same height?
- Clips or low profile U-channel?
- What do you think of transoms over the door (operable or not)?
- Do doors that go to the ceiling look strange? Obviously they are very heavy and take some special hardware but would a 30" wide x 8' tall door look odd?
Re: Poll: Glass Shower Enclosures
I think if the shower tile goes to the ceiling then so should the glass walls.
Low Pro U-channel
Love operable transoms
I like the look of big doors
I was really digging a lot of the inspiration pics your were pinning last night.
LOL stalker!!

- Glass shower enclosures: Yay or Nay and why? Both. I like the look, but cleaning can be kind of a pita
- Do you prefer to the ceiling or shorter than the ceiling? Shorter
- If the shower tile goes to the ceiling does the glass need to go to the ceiling as well? no
- Should all of the panels and door be the same height? It depends on the actual space
- Clips or low profile U-channel? I don't know
- What do you think of transoms over the door (operable or not)? Not sure
- Do doors that go to the ceiling look strange? Obviously they are very heavy and take some special hardware but would a 30" wide x 8' tall door look odd? Maybe

Me too!
We are doing a glass enclosure for our master bathroom shower. Our tile will go to the ceiling but the glass will not....
- Glass shower enclosures: Yay or Nay and why? Yes
- Do you prefer to the ceiling or shorter than the ceiling? Prefer to the ceiling if possible
- If the shower tile goes to the ceiling does the glass need to go to the ceiling as well? Preferred, yes!
- Should all of the panels and door be the same height? Preferrably
- Clips or low profile U-channel?
- What do you think of transoms over the door (operable or not)?
- Do doors that go to the ceiling look strange? Obviously they are very heavy and take some special hardware but would a 30" wide x 8' tall door look odd? No
I am sure you have already looked into it but the only thing to take into consideration when doing full floor to ceiling glass enclosure is how the moisture escapes and if it would get too steamy. I would prefer if our glass enclosure went to the ceiling, right now it stops about 1 ft. short (we have a tall bathroom ceiling).

I guess my secret is out!
Here's my bathroom board. I didn't pin anything that wasn't already pinned though. I was using Pinterest to look for some other pictures but I found plenty on Houzz looking under the tag glass shower enclosure...see the SO post.
Haha, I was thinking the same thing when I saw you post this Foxin
. I saw that pin with the transom you posted yesterday and was all I want one of those!
I don't really know much about glass surrounds, but I like the idea of going all the way to the ceiling if your tile does. And obvs I like the transom idea.
Yes Pinterest is very telling of what a person is thinking about. There have been more than one blogger I follow who I have found out they are PG from their Pinterest pins before they announce it on their blog.
Good point! We're going with a special sealed glass that is supposed to be easier to maintain and doesn't need to keep being re-applied. Then we were thinking of using a car wax or Rain-X product on it so water beads up and is less likely to cling to it. Hopefully the water droplets won't be splashing up that high. The rainshower is hung high but points straight down and is a few feet from either of the panels. It's definitely going to be more maintenance than our current shower curtain but it will really open up that corner of the room. Plus everything else we're picking is very low maintenance if any (quartz, epoxy grout, porcelain tiles, fixtures with PVD, etc.) so it's the one thing that will need some more attention.
