Cat Attract

Hey guys,

I posted a while back about my 8 y/o rescue cat pooping occasionally in random places in the house. (No reason, really; I tried different litters, different sized cat boxes, the boxes are scooped every day (I have 3 BIG open boxes for this (big) cat and a kitten, the whole boxes are cleaned every other week (cleaned out and fresh litter--the whole shebang) ... took him to the vet to have him checked out to see if he had a physical problem-- he's perfectly healthy -- turns out he's just a PITA)

And while I'm thankful he's not PEEING in my house, it's annoying to come home and find a pile of poo by the computer or a turd in the corner in our spare bedroom. So. I caved and bought cat attract cat litter from petco and filled all three cat boxes today. It said 100% box usage or your money back. So I said what the hell, why not. My question to you all is, what is your experience with this litter, if you've ever used it? Did you cat (s) spray or poop? The information booklet enclosed in the litter kind of sounded like this is mostly an option for cats who urine-mark, but there was a little blurb about cats using feces to mark their territory as well. Like a sentence. -_- ... but anyways.... Is this something that I'm going to have to use for the rest of his life? OR is this something that I would use for a month or two until he's in the habit of using the box all the time?

TIA!

Re: Cat Attract

  • We used it when S didn't want to pee in the box following a UTI.  Currently, we use Dr. Elsey's multi cat litter, and are very happy with it.

Sometimes S poops outside the box when there isn't enough litter in it.  She is our resident diva.  We clean the areas with Nature's Miracle, and also use Feliway spray and diffusers.

  • It worked for a few days for my girl and then she started peeing outside the box again, and the other two without issues went back to using the other boxes, so I took them back on their money back guarantee. I felt bad about it but holy cow that stuff is expensive!

I think if it works for you, you could try slowly mixing your regular litter back in and see how it goes.

  • Thanks for the advice... It kind of sounds like I might have a diva on my hands as PP has said. I swear, NONE of my cats have EVER done this, and thankfully the baby hasn't smelled the other cat's poop and started doing the same. (Oh hai I can poop here, too!)

So, I guess we'll see how it goes. Thanks for your replies. If it doesn't work, DH bought a spot-bot last night to clean up kitty messes :-D

I forgot to mention that Dr. Elsey's also makes a litter additive that you can mix in with your regular litter.  We have used it with foster kittens a couple of times, but prefer kitten attract for them.
