AP related question

I'm in the accounting/finance field and was wondering, if those of you who are, have you heard of this organization: http://www.financialops.org/

If you are familiar with it have you taken the CAPA or CAPP test? Has it helped you advance in your current position (pay increase/promotion if able to move up) or future opportunities?

The reason I'm asking is because I am going to get the book/study materials necessary later this year and curious if it helped you better understand and do your job. There is no room to move up in my department and I know this would benefit me in the long run, but afraid I won't be recognized if I do take the test and pass it. I bust my butt and have been for years without any recognition.Frown (I'm frustrated with more than not being recognized).

This is my first post on TheNest and I am very glad I found it.  Smile

I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,

Diamond

Re: AP related question

  • Do you have an accounting degree?  I think that would be more important than being certified in AP.

  • I do not have a degree, but if you take the test(s) and pass it's Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} equivalent to a degree though.

  • I find it hard to believe that a single class and certification would be considered the equivalent to an accounting degree. Honestly, I think you'd be better off with the degree than the certification, especially if you say there's no room for promotion in your current company.  An accounting degree will do more for you in the long run.

  • I should rephrase what I said.

Since I do not have a degree, IF I were to get this certification future employers would look at the cert as a plus and probably highly consider me and overlook the fact that I didn't have a formal degree.
