I got jury duty :( advice?
I have to report for jury duty tomorrow. Any advice? How formally should I dress? Can/should I bring my laptop?
Re: I got jury duty :( advice?
I dressed business casual when I was on a jury. You don't need to wear a suit, but i don't know that I'd show up in jeans.
In re: the laptop, we weren't allowed to bring anything in electronics into the courtroom and we definitely weren't allowed to have anything in the deliberation room - we had to hand over our cell phones, etc - and I wouldn't want to risk a laptop going missing, so I wouldn't bring it.
If you're just waiting to be called for an actual jury tomorrow, I might bring a book / nook / kindle or something though - that wait can seem like it takes for.ev.er.

I brought a book with me. Fortunately, I was called during the first group, was picked for the trial and got to leave right after that since the trial didn't start until a couple of days later.
I wore business casual, IIRC.
I wore jeans. Laptop was a waste of time -- bring a book.
Yea, I was picked. We convicted in a road rage case. It was intensely emotional and difficult - it was not a clear cut case. He was given 6-12 years. Deciding upon guilt or innocence with strangers was an eye-opener to say the least. One thing I am sure of -- stay the f out of the legal system.
Don't pretend you're crazy... and then call in to brag about your tactics on a local radio show the judge also happens to listen to.

Bring a book, not a laptop.
You WILL see crazy people waiting to see if they were picked for JD. You feel very happy they leave. Because they are f'ing crazy.
You can tell right off the bat who is lying about why they can't serve - it makes you cringe, honestly -- and then everyone else whispers about them during breaks. The lawyers usually talk to them but you KNOW they are going to just let them go -- who wants someone on JD that really doesn't want to be there?
Oh -- hard candy is also good to have.
