Hi, I am currently wearing an air cast "boot" thing on my right foot because of a stress fracture in my sesmoid bone (it's like the "knuckle" bone of the big toe connecting to the foot). I am 100% certain this is from years of high heels, walking and dancing in them. About six months ago I couldn't even put a high heel shoe on without great pain in that bone.
I'll have the boot removed in a couple of weeks and obviously need to re-consider my shoe choices for work in the future (and mind you, I wasn't wearing crazy high heels!).
Aside from ballet flats, which my podiatrist says aren't good for me anyway, can you recommend a fashionable flat or heel/platform shoe that doesn't create a lot of pressure on that knuckle bone on the foot? I'm envisioning some sort of "gently sloping" wedge?
Any rec's? Anyone out there that has experienced a problem with that bone?
Re: fashionable/chic flats to gentle heel?
Are you looking mostly for shoes for work? or casual every day? or more dressy/evening? Can you wear a ballet blat if it has a small heel? http://tinyurl.com/7469k3p (just as an example, as I think these are kind of ugly)
They aren't chic, but I like my Sperry top siders. Here are some other shoes.
On Endless, there are a lot of loafer type of shoes that would be my personal choice for casual shoes, like this http://tinyurl.com/88prnvg
For something a little dressy, maybe something like this http://tinyurl.com/7re6bav
I've never broken that bone, but I've had a stress fracture in my metatarsal, and a broken talus.
After a period of time in the boot, your foot will likely widen. I found that some of my old shoes didn't work well for me anymore, it was almost like my foot had expanded.
Your podiatrist may not agree, but I personally loved more "barefoot" type shoes. I tried Danskos after my stress fracture, and was absolutely miserable.
These are great: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/cole-haan-air-tali-wedge-pump/3172319 (especially in wide). I also wore ballet flats, both Cole Haan and Vera Wang Lavender, and Toms.
For the more recent injury, I wore my sperrys, too.
