How was your doctor's appointment? Did you like your doctor? How did you find him/her? Were there any things that your doctor mentioned that you might not have thought to ask? Were there any surprises?
I am planning to go off the pill after this pack (but not actively TTC until July), and I am terrified and confused. I am not even sure if my current doctor is the right kind of doctor (stupid, I know), so there's a possibility I'll need to look for one very soon.
Re: Noron
It was good, thanks! It was really just my yearly OBGYN exam where I mentioned we'd TTC soon (maybe). She's a new doctor I picked based on convienence - my old one was on Michigan Ave, and the thought of taking two trains and hobbling down Michigan while very pregnant scared me! This one is a member of the Northshore network, and is in Lincolnwood - which is right down the street from us, since we're so far north. She delivers out of Evanston hospital - also a close drive away, which is good. I really liked her! If you want her info, let me know. The practice on Michigan was great too, if you want their info as well.
She did the basic yearly exam stuff and we briefly chatted about TTC. She told me to start taking prenatals, or at the very least folic acid. She suggested I get bloodwork done for Rubella and Cystic Fibrosis at some point - if both H and I test positive as CF carriers, it MAY affect our future spawn, but the odds of us both testing positive are unlikely. Other than that, she said since my cycles are normal I'm probably ovulating around the 14th day (I recommend TCOYF for more info on that, though!). If I get a BFP, she said to make an appointment for about 2 weeks after (so around 6 weeks pregnant) since they can't really do much before then.
The only surprise was not related to TTC - I didn't know recommendations have changed and I only needed to have a pap every two years, instead of every year.
All in all, it was very painless! Let me know if you have any more questions!

I think Evanston is probably too far for me. Thanks though! A pregnant coworker at school said she really likes her doctor, so I may try her.
Did she say when you should do the blood work? I am new to all the pregnancy acronyms... what is TCOYF?
My old doctor told me that paps changed to every 2 years, but my current doctor said that it had more to do with insurance and still recommended I get one every year to be safe. So I guess not everyone in the profession agrees about it.

She recommended the blood work before getting pregnant, I think so we knew of any problems...? I HATE getting blood taken, but H needs to get some done so I think we'll go in together in the next few weeks (although we're not going to TTC until June). TCOYF is the book Taking Charge of your Fertility (http://www.tcoyf.com/), a great resource to learn more about ovulating/TTC and avoiding. I picked it up a year or so ago when I got off the pill and have been half-assed charting to avoid ever since. We've been successful so far, and I'm thinking it will help when TTC as well, since it's taught me when I'm fertile, basically.
I think it probably is an insurance thing - I think the recommendation for mammograms changed too, if I remember correctly. Stupid insurance.

::butting in:: I am getting my Mirena removed next Monday so that my doctor and I can figure out if my hormone levels are stabilizing or if they are still wacky, and I am going to be charting to avoid as our main form of BC. I'm super nervous about slipping up and getting pregnant - did you feel this way? Did you just go by temp and cervical mucus or do the cervical position, also?
I started out temping every morning, but because I work crazy hours I sleep crazy hours and couldn't keep up with temping at the same time. Basically I just observe CM (I told you I was half-assed!) because we wouldn't be ruined if we had an oops. It helps that my cycles are super regular, too.
For the first few months we used condoms 100% of the time, but gradually we used them less and less as I became more familiar with my cycle. Now we just use pull n pray when I'm fertile. I am absolutely still very nervous about getting pregnant - in fact, I usually end up taking a test every month! This is probably because I'm totally insane, though. Someone not crazy should have no problem!

1. I told DH that I'm never going back on BC again. Yes, that means that I'll probably chart to avoid, and I'm scared we might end up with LOs closer together than we wanted. DH's reaction to me saying no more BC was, "great, so we can pop them out close together?" I think he'll always be on the baby train.
2. I was on the mini pill for a year before we were TTC, and I didnt get AF while on it. I almost took a test every month because I felt like there was really no way to know otherwise!
I just ordered the book, so hopefully I'll get the chance to read it next week during our spring break. It wouldn't be a terrible thing if we got pregnant before July, but we figured out that the timing of my maternity leave would be just perfect with school if we conceived on my birthday!

Awesome! I found it really fascinating, honestly. I feel like it's what I should have learned in Sex Ed!
OH, I remembered something else the doctor told me that wasn't shocking to me but was shocking to H: a perfectly healthy couple only has a 20% chance of conceiving every month. That's kind of a crazy statistic - and one they absolutely SHOULDN'T teach in Sex Ed!

I loved TCOYF...I felt the same way about sex ed in high school, but I understand why they don't teach it. I also had to explain to DH about the 20% chance each month, and that got him on board with charting.
Also, I recommend watching "The Great Sperm Race" on youtube. it's a series of 6 videos, but it was really awesome...it's a wonder anyone get's pregnant!
