I'm bored... random poll

Like Elenetxu said, you're all cool and have social lives, I know :) Who's around for a poll?

Highlight of the weekend?

What's your next holiday destination?

Favourite kind of shoes?

What are you reading?

Do you have photo booth photos with your SO? Do tell.

*edited* What's the word for "hello" where you are?

(Edited 'cause I couldn't think of anything in Italian either - sorry, I clearly don't have a gift for poll making)

WFD? probably just lean cuisine - dh is out of town and SIL doesn't cook and I'm tired after a day of work usually, so will just make dinner for dd then heat something up for myself :)

  • Highlight of the weekend? My MIL was here and when she arrived Quint screamed "HI GRAMMY MARY COME OVER HERE AND PLAY."  He has a tendency to alienate people he doesn't know super well and he only sees her every couple of months.  They had a great time playing.  I also saw the hunger games last night.

WFD?  I am on medicine that makes food taste like saw dust no matter what I have so I will just say I had saw dust for dinner.

What's your next holiday destination? We are going to the beach this summer.  Boring but the kid loves it.

Favourite kind of shoes? Flip flopsIf it was socially acceptable to go barefoot everywhere I would.  I don't like shoes.

What are you reading? This post.

Do you have photo booth photos with your SO? Do tell.  I have no idea what this means.  Do you mean do I have naked pictures of my husband and I doing it?  I barely have pictures of us clothed so that one is a no.

What the word for "hello" where you are?  Hey y'all!  And please note it is Y'ALL not YA'LL.  I will MMA you over this.

  • imageObsession:

Oh no no, regular photo booth pictures! Had no idea there were other "versions".

  • Say something (in)appropriate in your local language.

I want to do this one because I do know something inappropriate in dutch and use it frequently - lekker ding.  It is basically like saying hot piece of a$$.

There is also frautje which has a bunch of meanies but really it is like saying "little lady" in a derogatory way.  So if someone calls you a frautje in Dutch it may mean they think you're an idiot.

Their real cuss words are mainly the same as american's.

  • Highlight of the weekend? Going to the Malaysian Grand Prix.

WFD?  As it's only 10 in the morning, I have no clue.

What's your next holiday destination? I'm going to Borneo for a few days tomorrow with a friend we have visiting.

    Favourite kind of shoes? Sandals.

What are you reading? I've just started Poisson d'or by JMG Le Clezio

Do you have photo booth photos with your SO? Do tell.  We have pictures taken in photo booths at people's weddings but that's it.  H is grabbing my boob in one of them because we're super klassy like that.

What the word for "hello" where you are?  I haven't the faintest.  Selamat Datang is welcome and it's literally the only thing I know.

Lekker ding is an Afrikaans phrase too. The direct translation is nice thing.

I would say inappropriate things in Afrikaans, but its kind of like when someone says say something n Afrikaans... I tend to draw a blank.

I might have heard that in passing.  H's boss apparently told them the other day that he doesn't know what he's going to do with them because they come to the office and it's all talk of dop*, doos*, and disco.  I raise an eyebrow at quite a bit of things that come out of his workplace.

I think the direct translation in dutch is tasty or yummy thing :)

  • Highlight of the weekend? DH got a job. But it is a so-so highlight because now we have no days off together and Wed-Fri he'll leave for work before I get home, and then get home after I'm in bed. Bummer.

    WFD? Reheated penne bolognese.

What's your next holiday destination? We've already spent too much on travel this year, so probably a wedding we are going to in Maryland in October.

Favourite kind of shoes? I love flip flops and flats. Basically anything comfortable.

What are you reading? Angelmaker by Nick Harkaway. Really enjoying it so far. Reads a bit like Umberto Eco plus humor.

Do you have photo booth photos with your SO? Do tell. Nope, we've never done that.

*edited* What's the word for "hello" where you are? Hello :)

  • Dop is alcohol, doos directly translated is box, but actually means bloody idiot. Just in case you never knew, lol. Jou ma se poes basically means 'Your mother's 'vagina' (use the c word here)'. You use it to insult a person.

Oh, I know what they all mean.  Although it's because H tells me.  H's boss is old school Rhodesian and won't translate anything someone else says that's even semi-offensive for me because I'm a "lady".

  • Well, if they ever won't translate for you then I will. Just let me know.

  • I will most likely be taking you up on that offer in the near future.
  • Highlight of the weekend?

Hubby has been working 7 days lately due to deadlines and a recruitment freeze and he actually out his foot down and said no this weekend (well Sunday) so we actually got to spend some time together.

    WFD?

Soy roast with roast potatoes and fresh garden veggies

    What's your next holiday destination?

Brisbane in about 2 weeks for BIL's wedding and then Thailand in October

Favourite kind of shoes? Jangles (thongs/flipflops)

    What are you reading?

Revelation by C.J.Sansom and Chasing Daisy by Paige Toon (as a diverson from the other book which is a bit heavy)

Do you have photo booth photos with your SO? Do tell.

    Nope

*edited* What's the word for "hello" where you are?

    G'day mate.

  • Highlight of the weekend?  Actually getting some sewing done?  I lead a very exciting life.

WFD?  No idea.  DH said he would take care of it.

What's your next holiday destination?  Visiting MIL at Easter in country Victoria.

Favourite kind of shoes? Flip flops

WFD? We just had pappardelle with sugo, I don't know what the next course will be yet.

    Favourite kind of shoes? Wedges

What are you reading? The meaning of Happiness by Alan Watts

Do you have photo booth photos with your SO? Do tell. Yes, we took them years ago in Rome, it was before my trip to Corfu and his scouting trip to NYC.

*edited* What's the word for "hello" where you are? Clearly hello, but I'll add hello in Friulano dialect from Northern Italy: mandi.

If you're ever in Rome and as you stroll down the street hear the phrase "a' pezzo de fica!", you're been paid a very nice compliment in a very un-gallant way :)

  • Highlight of the weekend?

My weekend started Thursday evening. DH and I went out to an Italian Restaurant for dinner in the Old Town. Yes, Chicago has an old town. Then we wandered around down the street quite a distance and ended up in the loop. Stopped off for some Lemonade at Chick-fil-a and hopped on the red line home.

    WFD?

We had beef stroganoff and now I'm trying to stop popping Hi-Chews in my mouth.

    What's your next holiday destination?

Probably me flying to South Georgia to see my Grandma and pick out a kitten. Otherwise no destinations for US. Maybe a weekend trip. DH needs to save vacation time a his Grandpa is very sick. The situation is up in the air so he needs to be ready for anything.

    Favorite kind of shoes?

Flats that have good arch support or riding boots. I have a lot of stuff from Born. I like wearing Tom's when I'm walking a lot because they don't give me blisters.

    What are you reading?

The 3rd Pretty Little Liars book.  :/

Do you have photo booth photos with your SO?

No. We've never done that I guess. It always was so expensive. We have some that we've taken with our iPhones.

*edited* What's the word for "hello" where you are?

Well here it's hey or hi. In Switzerland we used  Gr?ezi.

  • Highlight of the weekend? Sun and nice temps - I got to sit on the beach yesterday!

    WFD? Probably chicken breast.

What's your next holiday destination? Alicante to hang out at OH's parents' place.

Favourite kind of shoes? Ballet flats.

What are you reading? Nothing at the moment. If I read anything, it's usually a trashy magazine in English.

Do you have photo booth photos with your SO? Do tell. Nope.

*edited* What's the word for "hello" where you are? "Hola" or, in the Basque Country "kaixo" (keye-sho)

  • Highlight of the weekend:    8-mile trail ride on our bikes in the awesome spring weather we England peeps have been enjoying

WFD?   Chicken in a white wine/garlic/mushroom/rosemary sauce with couscous and grilled asparagus

Holiday destination:  We just booked our honeymoon cruise in Greece and Turkey! Very excited.

    Kind of shoes?   Flip-flops!

Reading?   A book called "Come Back to Me" on my Kindle, and I'm honestly not really digging it.

Photo booth photos?  No, but we do have a bazillion photos of us where one of us (usually him) is holding the camera pointed back at us.

Hello?    I'm getting used to people asking "How are you?"  as a form of greeting. At first it seemed kind of odd that people would ask me how I am before even saying hello, but now I get that it's a greeting, not an actual request for my current state of mind:-)

I have read several books in that series and love them!  Have you seen the TV show they made based on the books?

I am watching it on Friday nights.  I can't decide if I think it's a good adaptation or not.  I like Essie Davis as Phryne, but the haircut is all wrong for the time, the 20's bob was a much blunter cut, and what she has is the Posh variation that was popular a couple of years ago.  And the accent for the jazz/blues singer in The Green Mill Murder was wrong, so wrong it was painful.  There was no way that accent would have been a Virginia accent at the time.  But then I can get nitpicky like that.

I can't tell how well they have done with the books because I have to read the series in order and I was having a heck of time finding the #2 book, but I am going to tear through the first five now that I have found it.

I haven't read all the books and the ones I have read haven't been in order.  I didn't find out about the show until the third episode and that is the only one I have seen (and I read that book).   I enjoyed the episode I saw even if it's portrayed different from how I imagined it.  I've always read Phryne as speaking like Gai Waterhouse (if you don't know who she is, she is a horse trainer).  I am going to have to find the rest of the books now to read.

  • Highlight of the weekend?

We had a surprise guest from Adelaide turn up at our door on Wednesday night and she stayed through the weekend.

    WFD?

    Quiche and salad

    What's your next holiday destination?

    Don't have one

    Favourite kind of shoes?

    Flip flops or thongs.

    What are you reading?

The Six - an ARC. It comes out on April 9th.

Do you have photo booth photos with your SO? Do tell.

I must have missed something because I have no idea what you are talking about. :)

*edited* What's the word for "hello" where you are?

G'day - but most people say Hello.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic IN July 2011 Siggy Challenge - What I miss most: Panera Cinnamon Crunch Bagel!
  • Highlight of the weekend -- Sunny weather and a shiny new Nespresso machine!

WFD -- I have some leftover chili and corn biscuits to use up

    Next holiday destination -- Hungary

Favorite kind of shoes -- high-end insulated waterproof winter boots (because I can spend all day outside in the Norwegian winter without my toes getting cold! It makes me feel invincible!)

Reading -- Captains of the Sands by Jorge Amado (a gift ordered for me by the dimpled Brazilian; it's one of his favorites and takes place in the part of the country he's from)

Photo booth photos with SO -- No. But I have photo-booth photos with XH that were published in USA Today. We had to go to the JoP 6 months before the wedding because of visa issues. I didn't want to make a big deal of it at all, because it wasn't the "real" wedding to me, so the only photos we have from that day were from a photo booth that we hopped in at the mall while we were waiting for rush hour traffic to die down. When USA Today did a spread in the Life section about all the reasons people end up needing to have two weddings (pulling input from The Knot), they asked for photos of both ceremonies and thought our photo strip was so cute that we led the story and had the photos printed full-size on the cover of the Life section.

Hello in Norway -- Hei, pretty much pronounced "Hi" (There's an actual "hello" equivalent, but it's not used as much)

Thanks for the word. If I'd heard this first-hand in the Basque country, I would have thought it was a Basque person trying to say "cheese" in Portuguese (queijo).
