Mad Men Season Opener Discussion (spoilers welcome!)
OMG!
Seriously, the episode played like the ballet Peggy wanted to create with the beans. The flow from the previous season (17 months ago) was seamless.
Joan was amazing. I loved her interplay with Roger (you could tell that she was hoping for a different reaction) and Lane.
Peggy's best moment was the look on her face when someone handed her the baby.
And I for one am intrigued by Megan's game. She plays Don's lust so well, but she doesn't understand him. Watching Sally watch her was incredible.
Re: Mad Men Season Opener Discussion (spoilers welcome!)
I loved Joan in general and definitely in the scenes you mentioned. I loved when Roger said, "Has anyone even seen this baby with you walking next to it?"
I don't get Megan at all. You're right, she doesn't understand Don. I found myself thinking about Betty and how, in spite of everything she didn't like about him, she essentially understood him. I'm ready to see her BTW (stay quiet, Betty haters lol). It was so weird how, even with the surprise party was over, Megan couldn't see what had gone wrong and how upset Don was. The party was hilarious though.
As for the bean ballet, I can totally envision it! lol

Mmmmm...Roger Sterling. That's it.
He had so many great one-liners tonight!!!
All I have to say is: TWO hours and NO Betty Draper?! Wha? I can't wait to see her next week.
Man, Pete was in a pissy mood.
And just to clarify: Joan's baby is Roger's, right?
I loved it!
Glad I'm not the only one who missed Betty!
Isn't Pete always kinda pissy? lol
Yes, the baby is Roger's.
Baking Blog
Yeah, Joan's baby is Roger's.
I was also surprised by the lack of Betty.
I'm glad they're introducing some more of the racial issues. And I agree, Roger was on FIRE tonight! I don't know why, but the one that made me LOL was, "Is it just me, or is our waiting room full of Negroes?"
::Coming in with eyes closed!::
Does anyone know if they are going to put last nite's episode OnDemand so I can watch it tonite? Thanks!
not sure about OnDemand but I believe its being reaired tonight.
I was a little confused about Lane and the guy with the wallet. Was the guy genuinely looking to make sure all his money was there or was he looking for the photo?
Did Pete gain a little weight? Looks like they are aging him a bit- I picked up the comment about him losing his hair.
How freaking funny was when he sent Roger to Staten Island at 6AM?
Roger had some great lines- love his character so much!
I was confused by this as well. Remember when Lane had that affair with a young African American girl? I thought they might be going down that road again with the focus on racial tensions, but I guess not. I also am surprised Lane's wife is still with him/in NYC. I thought she was moving back to London.
JJ was/is pregnant so they had to work around that, so I think there will be less Betty for a while.
As much as I dislike her I missed Betty too she definitely adds to the show :-)
oh yea, I forgot about that. It really has been forever since the show has been on!
I think he wife is begrudgingly moving back to NY. She said something on the phone about making sure Lane got the name of Trudy's realtor and decorator.
BTW- LOVED Trudy & Pete's kitchen and stove! I swear that was the really cool stove Samantha had on Bewitched. The knotty pine kitchen makes me feel better about having a 50 yr old knotty pine kitchen myself...it's retro, right?!?
I wasn't bowled over by the premiere, but it's definitely nice to have the show back.
Question about Harry - were he and his wife having problems before, or is this a new thing? Also looks like he's lost some weight.
I think we're going to see some interesting things from Sally this season...that girl is a great actress.
I wonder if Dr. Rapist is going to be on the show much this year.
How long do you all think Megan and Don are going to last?
Wait, who is Dr. Rapist? Betty's shrink?
thats Joan's husband. He attacked her one night and thats how he got that reputation.
Not sure about the having problems thing, but I almost didn't recognize him. He lost quite a few pounds.
Yes, Megan knows about D!ck Whitman. Don realized there was a lot he did wrong in his last marriage. He's trying to fix (some of) those things, and one was definitely honesty and the stress of living a double life.
Megan is very different than Betty, but I seem to be the only one who enjoyed seeing her a lot this episode. Somehow, I think she and Don work together. It's a new marriage, after a whirlwind relationship. There's still a lot to work out, BUT I think they are both dedicated to working on it and I think they really do click. Megan is smart, ambitious, sexy, fun, and also good at entertaining and with the children. All things that Don is totally looking for. She's not a doormat, and I think he likes that she can hold her own against him... as long as she's not getting in his way. :-P But he'll learn.

The episode was very good, love that it's back on. Don's birthday party was awesome. When Megan started singing, I died. Like Lane said: " I saw his soul leave his body." Perfect description of Don's and everyone else's mortification.
I like Megan, she is the opposite of Betty. But I have a feeling Megan and Don won't last.
Loved the touching scene between Lane and Joan. I like that they are friends.
I wasn't sure if the guy was aware that Delores's photo was missing from his wallet or not. I know he would have counted the cash because he said he won it at the track from betting on the horses. But not sure if he let Lane slide on the photo being missing.
I am surprised that Lane's wife is back in NY. She was awful. Lane probably begged her to stay with him after his father whacked him hard in the head last season.
Roger did not disappoint at all. Love that guy.

Sorry, Dr.G--I've forgotten about the situation with Penny's boyfriend.
I've got another question about the Don-Megan sex scene at the end. People.com characterized it this way:
"At the end of Sunday's premiere, a disgusted and embarrassed Megan leaves work and ends up in their soiled apartment living room, attempting to clean up after the party. Don then comes home early, and ? after she strips down to her bra and underwear ? the two fall into an uncomfortable embrace and begin having sex on the living room floor. It's a chilling scene that begs the question: What's next for this couple?"
Um, I thought this scene was hot! Well, in a weird S&M kind of a way. What did you make of this? When we saw Megan take off her robe we were like WTF and I didn't entirely expect that. My interpretation is that Megan, unlike Betty, is more open to experimentation and control, so what Don needs/likes. Maybe this is the way to keep Don's eye from wondering.
And Peggy's sister knows too.
Yeah, Pete knows about the baby. I don't know if her boyfriend knows or not, I'm thinking he doesn't. Don knows because he was at the hospital after she gave birth.
I really liked the opener. I thought it was a little slow in the beginning but it picked up. I missed Betty too but I'm guessing that since she had a baby in real life that she may not be in a lot of the first episodes of this season.
Roger never disappoints, he had some great lines and I loved that Pete set him up to go to that fake appointment at 6am.
The Megan character is ok. Part of me thinks she uses her sexuality because she knows of Don's reputation with the ladies so she might feel like if she doesn't sex it up he will lose interest and have an affair. That song she sang was really something, lol. What a crazy party.
I thought it was funny when Harry was talking about how he'd seduce Megan and she walked in.
doesn't the priest (I think Colin Hanks played him) know too? I remember him making some comment to Peggy one time.
Oh here's a question that popped in my head- doesn't Roger think Joan had an abortion? Does he know she didn't go through with it?
I forgot about Peggy's sister knowing and blabbing it in confession to the Priest (Colin hanks). Then he asked Peggy to confess her sins, after Peggy helped his church out for free (on a church dance). I think Peggy was beyond p!ssed and that's why she was hellbent on getting away from her family, that church, and moving to Manhattan to start fresh.
