IF you have gold trim on your fine china do you also have gold flatware? Clicky Poll

  • I have an antique Lenox set, cream with gold trim. Gold colored silverware would be extreme overkill, and since I'm not Marie Antoinette it would not suit the decade (century) or our decor.

I think you're over thinking this one just a bit!

  • My mother's thanksgiving set is burnt orange with a gold trim. We do not have gold flatware. I agree with PP that it would be overkill.
  • Not a fan of gold flatware at all, ours is stainless, my mother's and MIL both have silver plate.

  • The set I am trying to match has a very small gold edge. It just doesnt look right with stainless flatware to me? I dont know of anyone who has gold colored flatware except my grandmother lol. I hate ornate stuff as a general rule unless I can mix it with other things to tone it down. Here is the pattern http://www.silverqueen.com/pictures/PatternShow/CHINA/BRIGADOON-ROYAL%20ALBERT      In my minds eye I see flatware with a vine pattern.

  • I have Waterford Ballet Ribbon Gold china, and I just have the regular silver flatware.  I looked at the gold accented flatware that coordinates with it, but I thought it was too over the top, and I'm someone who is kinda obsessed with gold toned things.

Maybe it is the pattern of your flatware that you don't like with it.  It looks like the color of stainless would look nice with it.

I think it would look really pretty with a very simple pattern.  I'm not really feeling the vine pattern idea.  I think simple flatware would showcase the china nicely and wouldn't distract from it.

Not a fan of gilt flatware. IMHO, sterling goes well with everything. I use mine with my Lenox Holiday, my Royal Doulton Princeton (both gold trimmed) and my recently aquired vintage platimum rimmed china. Works well with my plain white Villeroy and Boch too.

Generally the rule for place settings is 2 plain and one fancy-or-1 plain and 2 fancy. Since your vintage pattern is sort of busy, maybe you would do well to select a vintage flatware to complement it. My aunt, who married in 1946, has a retro Oneida Community Stainless patten that would do nicely.

  • I've only ever known one person with gold flatware. Oddly enough I think their china had silver trim.

  • Thank you for the ideas all Smile you could be right that maybe it is the flatware I put with it that I dont like. It has very modern lines that dont go well with the old fashioned lines of the china. When I went to a department store that sells Royal albert they were telling me that it needed to be paired with gold or gold accented flatware. Like I said before the only person I ever knew that had it was my grandmother and yes she was what most people would consider "over the top". I love the pattern on the china because it isnt something common. I looked online and hate most of the flatware I find. It all seems either to be very plain or really ornate.
