Color for Dummies

Is there some kind of color education out there that would be helpful for a beginner?

I picked out paint colors for our entry, narrowed down the options, put samples on the walls, lived with them for a few days, made a choice, spent all Saturday sanding, priming, painting.  I thought I was doing it all 'right.'  And my entry looks like an easter egg.

I picked what I thought was a nice, neutral griege color.  The walls waver between pinkish & purpleish depending on the light.  And the trim looks yellow.  The nuances of 'undertones' apparently escape me.

Please help.

Another useful thing is to paint patches (which sucks when you just want to get it done) and live with it for a few days. Go big or go home, because those tiny cards aren't big enough. I know most paint companies do samples now so you can get a tiny jar and slap it on the wall to see how the color changes with the hour.
