Mxliosi

I'm pretty sure I spelled that wrong.

We've booked our holiday to Morocco.

How does one dress in a muslim country? Will SD and I be okay if we wear maxi dresses with a light sweater? Do the sweaters have to be full length or is 3/4 sleeve okay?

Can my boys wear anything or are there restrictions on men and children too?

Re: Mxliosi

  • Yeah that will be fine. You don't need long sleeves. Honestly in the cities and touristy parts of Morocco you're going to see a huge range of dress. As long as your knees, shoulders and boobs are covered you are fine. No one expects you to act like a conservative adherent to a religion you don't belong to :)

I you are going really off the beaten path to conservative rural areas I might give it more thought, but on the tourist path as long as you're making an effort to be respectful it's cool. Also you can snark with the locals about all of the tourists wearing booty shorts!

The kids can really wear anything. Grown men probably shouldn't wear shorts, not because it's offensive just because grown men don't wear shorts for stuff other than athletic activity in much of the world.

"We tend to be patronizing about the poor in a very specific sense, which is that we tend to think,
  • we are doing two days up in the Atlas Mountains and will do the mule trip to Berber villages, but even that is probably "touristy".

I'm so excited. My husband says I'm spoiled because he kept suggesting places like Ireland and Belgium and I kept saying "again"... but I want to start seeing new places and the kids are old enough to start enjoying and remembering our trips.
