Do you store your coffee beans in the freezer?

I haven't been around these parts in a long, long time, but y'all taught me how to make delicious coffee (2 years ago?) so I thought I would come back to my original source.

A lot of people told me to keep the beans in the freezer, which I have been doing.  Well, I was reading the bag today and it said specifically not to do this!  I'm sure it will not kill me either way, I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts/insight on this.

:)  Miss y'all.

Re: Do you store your coffee beans in the freezer?

  • I keep our coffee beans in an airtight container on the counter, where it never gets sunlight. It probably shouldn't be a clear canister but ours is. We go through them fairly quickly so I don't freeze. I would be wary of the moisture in the freezer. I know the fridge is a def no-no, but I think the freezer can be fine as long as they're packaged well.
  • no. in a container on the counter.
Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:
Alison's book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • We don't go through coffee very fast, so yes, I store the beans in the freezer.  I let them warm up before grinding.  We only make coffee at home on weekends, so this works just fine.
  • DH used to keep his coffee beans in the freezer, but then he kept reading about the possibility of moisture being an issue and stopped.  Now he uses airtight cannisters.
  • No, it loses the flavor overtime. Store it in airtight container.
