Baby Shower Menu - ideas needed!

I mostly lurk on this board (and get recipe ideas from the daily blog updates!) - but need help with a baby shower menu. I am hosting with three other ladies who are very traditional (mints, nuts, punch) - but I'd like to change it up a bit & have a delicious spread.

The shower is drop-in, 2-4pm & for a baby boy - I would love any & all menu ideas to pass along to my fellow hostesses - thank you!

Re: Baby Shower Menu - ideas needed!

  • for how many people? the first things that come to mind are finger sandwiches (any type you want), a fruit salad, a green salad, perhaps a caprese skewer, perhaps hummus wtih pita chips or veggies for dipping....

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:
Alison's book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • approximately 35 are invited. I would bank on 20-25 stopping by.  Plus the mom-to-be & four hostesses
  • i think tea sandwiches adn fruit, hummus perhaps cheese/crackers are perfect then. just enough to munch on during a stop by during a non-meal time. although someone else may have better recs-i've never done a stop by bridal shower. goo luck :)

  • I agree with ali re: finger sandwiches. I just hosted a ladies party this past weekend and all this week I am posting "finger food" recipes on my blog if you are interested (LIS). Today is mini pudding tarts, and I will be posting a fun spin in egg salad, chicken salad, a dip and a punch.

  • For my best friend, we held a shower for 45.  We served deviled eggs, smoked salmon bites,  and cucumber bites for appetizers,  curried chicken salad in hollowed out pineapples with finger rolls and lemonade for a main course then butter cookies, chocolate spice cookies and vanilla chiffon cake for dessert.
  • These are great ideas, thank you so much!
  • Can I ask a question, is drop-in style cultural? I went to one about 1-2 years ago where when I got there, I was the only one there and nothing was set up (I thought i was early but I double checked the invite and I wasn't early. Pretty much noone got there for about an hour...then people would come, and leave...pretty much she opened their present, took a picture with them, then grabbed a snack and left. I just have a feeling that I must have missed the "drop in memo" and probably annoyed people by being there the whole time?
