My cat has kidney disease and has been eating special food since the diagnosis. I took him to the vet last week and they told me he has lost weight, most likely due to his kidneys. The dr recommended that we try the wet version of his food with pepcid ac because the wet version can be rough on the stomach. I could not him to chew the pepcid so he vomited the next morning.:( He has no desire to eat the last few days so there isn't much we can do unless he decides to eat on his own. I'm just upset that he was fine ( for the most part) before he had the wet food and ever since he had the food, he hasn't wanted to eat! Does anyone have any solutions? I did have some tuna and chicken broth.
Re: He won't eat!
My cat doesn't have kidney disease, but she was sick a few months ago and wouldn't eat.
It's really important that they eat something because if they don't, the liver can go into failure. I tried everything and she did eat some tuna, but it wasn't enough. So I had to force feed her with a dropper and some calorie rich food (prescription diet a/d critical care) mixed with water. I still don't know what was wrong with her. They did an ultrasound on her and all they saw was a little bit of inflammation with her gallbladder. She also got some shots (antibiotics and something for pain). She's better now, but it was really scary.
Since your cat has kidney disease, are you giving him fluids? What kind of treatment is he getting? I had a cat with kidney disease 15 years ago and we gave him fluids a few times a week for about a year or so. It definitely helped his quality of life. How old is your cat?
It's really important that you bring him in to the vet if he isn't eating. Please do this.
