First time taking someone a meal - advice please!

A friend just had her 2nd baby (she has a 2 year old as well).  I'm going to visit her Wednesday morning and want to take her a meal.  I'm planning on making Chicken Noodle Casserole

I've never actually done this before, so I'm wondering on the fine details of this!  I'd like to make this tomorrow - do I completely bake it, then refrigerate it and take it to her on Wednesday morning as is?  Do I bake it, freeze it, then take it to her?  Do I assemble it but not bake it?  What would you do?

  • For that, I'd get it to the point of baking, let it cool completely and refrigerate it.  I don't know if that particular dish would freeze.  Write directions on it.  I would write to take it out of the fridge for about an hour and then she'll probably need to bake at least a half hour to get it nice and hot. I usually say "or until heated through" and let them know it may take longer since they're heating it from a cold or room temperature rather than from having everything warm.
  • If I am bringing someone dinner, I always make sure to cook it all the way through and then keep it in the fridge (once it has cooled a bit) That way the family can decide whether they want to microwave smaller portions or reheat the whole dish. They could also opt to freeze it if they'd like.

ETA: I also try to send it in a container that they can toss or keep. That way they do not need to worry about who owns which container if they're receiving a lot of food.
