So my DH and I had to get a new bed frame for our new queen mattress this weekend, somewhat unexpectedly. Now I'm faced with a bed without a headboard, so my room looks a little naked. I'm really liking the upholstered headboards or the headboards built from doors. I've never upholstered anything in my life, but it doesn't look too complicated. I'm just a little wary about buying the materials and then screwing it up. I've found several online tutorials that mostly say the same things. Is upholstering a headboard something that someone who's never upholstered before can do fairly easily? Tips or tricks? And do you think upholstered would look good with this bed? The wall just looks so blank to me now without my headboard...
Here's what I'm working with:

Thanks! He is indeed a pit. He's such a snuggler, and has recently (as of today) figured out how to open our doors to get into our bedroom and get on our new bed. We've created a monster by buying this new bed...
This is why we will likely have lever door handles. At least not as long as we have little dogs who can jump high or bigger dogs who can reach them.
Our old pit/lab mix could almost open a regular door knob...we would have been in really big trouble if we had levers. lol
I'm in love with this upholstered headboard from Sawdust and Embryos:

I have no tips just wanted to know, this means you no longer have the bed that matches the nightstand you painted? I was looking forward to seeing the bed painted and whether you really liked it as much as the nightstand.
Upholstering a headboard is not too difficult, but attention to detail and fabric choice both make a difference in the finished product.
I see a lot of diy upholstered headboards online, and honestly, most of them look diy. It seems like most of the tutorials I have seen were done by someone who didn't really understand fabric and upholstery basics, and the end result looks kind of cheaply done to me.
Well, we still have the bed. I'm not getting rid of it since it matched my set; we just can't use it right now. But our guest bed is a full (size of the old frame), so we will be swapping out the crappy nearly 15 year old metal frame that bed is on for my sturdy, solid wood bed frame that used to be in our master. I am still planning on painting the headboard and footboard of that bed, as we will be putting the set back together for a guest bedroom once we have a bigger house.
Thanks! It's from BB&B. It was pricey, but we love it, too!
Ooooh, I love that! And it looks pretty easy, too!
