Yucca plants

We bought out house last year but this is the first season we actually have time to do anything with our yard.  The front flower bed is a disaster and we basically have to rip everything out and redesign it.  Our lawn is thin as well so that will be another task.

My main question is for the yucca plants we have in the front.  I dug them out last year, what I could at least, but they of course grew back with vengeance.  I've heard they are very hard to get rid of and they are totally overgrown and I do NOT like them at all.  Any suggestions as to how to clean up the front and remove them for good?

Re: Yucca plants

  • You just have to keep digging and get every bit of root out.  We had 2 in our flowerbeds and it took me a few years to get it all out. They are such a pain! And they aren't even that pretty. lol

  • My parents have a yucca in their front flower bed, and H has been trying to remove it for them for three years.

A few years ago, we completely redid the flower bed. We removed and replanted everything. About half the time was spent trying to get every last piece of the yucca. We got most of it, but every year, a little bit of it keeps coming back. When it does, we dig a trench around it, then scoop out the dirt with the roots. We fill the hole with replacement dirt and hope we got it all.

This year, only a tiny piece remains.
