Best thing you ate

Over the weekend or whenever in the past couple of days...

GLW, I particularly want to hear about that Bourbon and BBQ fest, did you have any ribs, pulled pork, or bourbon bacon?  What was the most amazing thing at the festival?

For me over the weekend we had some snacks at a wine bar and there was a cheese and meat platter out which included some Hazelnut and Herbed Goat Cheese Bites, which just melted in my mouth.

  • I think the best thing I had was double-glazed bacon with onion jelly on a grilled biscuit (from here: http://www.blacksaucekitchen.com/). I also had a great pulled pork sandwich with horseradish mayo and onions.

  • I had some alfredo pasta Saturday night with the family from Norway. I'm looking forward to having the leftovers for lunch today (along with my soft pretzel sticks).

  • We went to Ruby Tuesdays and I had a petite sirloin, rice pilaf, glass of wine, mozzarella stick, spring roll and a yummy salad.
  • I had this salad roll from a local sushi place. It was yummy.

  • Omg, there were delicious steak kabobs - mouth is getting wattery just thinking about it!

I also had some tiny tiny (< 1"^2) brownies that were good.
Had I not been in public, I likely would have eaten them all.

  • My mom does product testing type stuff sometimes.  Sunday we had a product testing for a new type of Duncan Hines icing.  It's basically icing that is flavorless, and these powdered flavor packets.  You put the packet in the icing and stir.  There were SO MANY FLAVORS!  We had orange creme, strawberry shortcake, mint chocolate, cotton candy, cherry vanilla, chocolate almond, chocolate marshmallow, and caramel icing.  We had 2 dozen yellow and 2 dozen chocolate cupcakes.  The best thing I ate would be one of those, haha.  We are still eating them and I have a chocolate cupcake with strawberry shortcake icing at work with me today for my snack.

  • We went to BBQ on Saturday where they slow cooked ribs and chicken. That should have been the best thing all weekend, however they weren't completely cooked. (Even though they spent 14 plus hours in the cooker.Ick!

So I will have to go with the Shrimp Drunken Noodles on Friday.

How do you get to do this?!

We went out to eat at Ruby Tuesdays Friday night and I had Shrimp Fondue that was amazing and my chicken had a side dish of squash and that was really good too.  Then Sunday I went to lunch at Moes and had a quesadilla with a wheat tortilla- and that was way better than I ever thought it could be.

  • Poutine!! God Bless those Canadians for creating such a delicious treat.

This could be totally different than Sessions' Mom (since we live in different areas of the country) but my Dad is part of a research study group that calls him when they need 'his' opinion (white, male, a certain age, etc.) I'm also on the list but I don't do it as frequently as my Dad. Sometimes it's product testing and sometimes it's Product Discussion - where you sit around a table with 5 - 15 other people discussing something (i.e. fruit smoothies at McDonalds) and you get paid like, $100 for an hour of your time. Since my dad is out of work, these research studies are helpful for him but I can't always go because of my schedule.

I really liked testing Extra's Dessert gums (i.e. mint chocolate chip) before they were released - but we did not know the brand name. We got like 20 sticks or something to take home and in a week or two we had to fill a survey about what we thought. And then I also tested the gum that changes from fruity to mint.

  • I ate boring all weekend, but currently I have toasted sesame ginger salmon in the oven, with a honey sesame glaze waiting for it. Mmm, mm, I'm excited to try it!
