I went to a granite store over the weekend, and I finally got to see Kashmir White up close. I had no idea it had flecks of plum/burgundy in it! That's absolutely beautiful. DH thinks it's way too light, and would rather do something like Black Galaxy or Blue Pearl. I think our kitchens are similar in shape and the amount of light they get, do you think you could have gone darker with the granite?

Picture of my kitchen. We're going to be doing that cabinet transformation kit in white.

  • Thanks! Our kitchen doesn't get a ton of natural light, and most of it is in the morning so that's when I take my pics of it :). By late afternoon I have to have a light on to see really well.

What kind of backsplash are you going to do? I forget - are you replacing your stove and/or floors? I think it would be too light if you were doing a white backsplash, but anything with a bit of color, like marble or a light gray will also help add a bit of color and contrast to the white cabinets. I prefer the softness of the kashmir white, but a darker counter would definitely work too! I don't think it would really darken the kitchen since the majority of it is light with the counters and appliances. It would provide a stronger contrast which is pretty too, just personal preference on the look you're going for.

Once you paint your cabinets, I'd get samples, and see if they'll give you a big sample rather than the little square, or just grab a few of the little squares and put them all together (we returned all of them of course when we did this). I'd definitely wait to make any decisions until you see the samples with your white cabinets.

We will be replacing the floor, but I'm not sure how soon. I will probably be going with a dark slate tile sort of look, but I haven't put much thought into it. Right now, I still have a puppy, so we're waiting to replace the floors/carpets until he grows up.

I'm afraid that with a darker color, it will look too much like a checkerboard with all the white and black. You're right though. I really need to get the cabinets done before I plan anything else. Thank you!!
