frosting ?

I had a cupcake this past weekend that had an amazing frosting.  it almost tasted like whipped cream or something.  does anyone know what it might be?  I've only ventured into making regular buttercream and cream cheese frosting so far!

    sort of (I've made whipped cream before), but it definitely had a thicker texture, maybe it was over-whipped?  because it had a slight buttery taste, but just MUCH lighter than a buttercream and with a more cream flavor than butter.  lol  I don't know if I'm explaining this well.

    I hadn't heard of either of those, but upon googling, it sounds kind of like the boiled milk one, thanks!

  • It could have possibly been whipped cream frosting that was stabilized with a little bit of cream cheese. I do 2 ounces cream cheese beaten with 1/4 cup sugar, add a little vanilla, then beat in a cup of heavy cream. It looks and has the texture of really thick whipped cream, and tastes like what you're describing.

    just looked up what this is - again, I have no idea since I'm not super familiar with all the different kinds of frosting, but this also looks like a good option.  thanks!

    this sounds SO good.  thanks!  I guess I'll just make a little file of new frostings to try :)

  • Your description sounds like swiss meringue buttercream to me too.
