Pardon me, JM? I sometimes find you grating and immature and alarmingly obtuse, and when that does happen, I react to you as such.  I found Turtle's comment problematic, so I addressed it.

When people aren't saying assh0le-y things, I'm lovely.  There are several folks on here whom I quite enjoy.  You're in error to make this about my disposition or my outlook on this board in general.

You find me immature...fair enough.  I find you funny sometimes, but more often I find you to be negative.  So you say I am "in error" and I say that is just my personal opinion of you.

You're entitled to have whatever opinion of me you like.  However, it's not like I come in here just to give people a hard time.  Maybe I call you out on things a lot, and that's what you notice more than anything (which makes sense), but more frequently, I try to offer people good, solid advice.  I try to talk about the importance of doing what makes a person happy and to place less value on arbitrary societal rules.  I'm honest, and sympathetic, and yes, sometimes easily annoyed.  But to say that I act like I someone "crapped in my corn flakes," is just simply not true.

You're right about one thing.  I AM funny.  If you'd imagine me smiling and raising an eyebrow when you read my posts (which is often the case), you'd find me far less dour.

Oh geez!  Sorry to drag you into this, JM!  Again, not my intention at all.  Although I know you enjoy this banter.

What was taken out of context?  You said that women have hit on you, and then you said "yuck," followed by several exclamation points.  Make no mistake -- nothing was taken out of context, and this isn't even close to a flaming.

I get if chicks aren't you're thing.  Nothing wrong with that.  But to be all grossed out simply because someone of the same sex found you attractive and said so?  Just doesn't sit well with me.

Besides, why do you even care?  As you were so quick to point out, I don't "know" you.

I don't like chicks.  They're not my thing.  No matter how hot one is that hits on me, I'm not going to be turned on or flattered by it.  Apparently this is a sin and I deserve to be punished.  I'll be sure to go to church this Sunday and repent for my sins.

And I'm equal opportunity.  I feel the exact same way when I get hit on by a guy that I don't find attractive or I'm put off by.  I guess this makes me a horrible person all around.

It is PERFECTLY fine that you're not into women, and that you wouldn't be flattered if one hit on you. Perfectly a-okay.

What's not okay? Being so disgusted by the idea of any woman hitting on you that you say "Yuck."

If you want to amend your statement to saying that you find it "yucky" when both unattractive women AND unattractive men hit on you, then I'll retract. But right now I'm feeling decidedly "yuck" about your response.

Actually, you didn't (because I actually DID read the entire 3+ page post before I posted). You said that women hitting on you was yuck, and that you felt the same way about unattractive men hitting on you. Which sounds a lot like you saying that any woman hitting on you is the same as an unattractive man hitting on you. Which, personally, I find pretty yucky.

That being said, it seems like what you're trying to get at now is that you meant to say that you find it yucky when unattractive women hit on you, and when unattractive men hit on you, so I'll just leave it at that.

Seriously? I care because when you first posted, it sounded like an INCREDIBLY homophobic comment. And I'm not down with homophobia.

After THREE pages and a lot of back and forth, it looks like you clarified the comment, that you didn't mean it to come out that way, and it seems fine to me now. You don't like it when unattractive people (period) hit on you. That's all fine and dandy, hunky dorey, a-okay, and lots of other euphamisms for "fine."

No apologies necessary for a simple misunderstanding, and now we can all go on our merry way.

That being said....crapped in cornflakes?  Really? Let me guess, I should go put on my big girl panties now or something? Welcome to the nest / interwebz...

I've been on the nest/interwebz for some time now.  This is just the first time I've inadverntently misspoke and anyone's taken notice.  It must be my lucky day!  I'll go buy a lottery ticket.

  • Man, don't you hate it when you think, "Ooh! Poll!" and respond, and then realize that your post landed in the middle of a sidetrack discussion. For some reason it makes me feel embarrassed. Like I just interrupted someone's conversation.

Nah, I feel like I am at a giant party, with a Drinks in one hand and a cig in the other watching people go at it. It is fun, like a tennis match.

And JM, you know I Broken Heart you (but taken away the broken party--stupid icons), but I think GOZ had a point with this one.

  • I admit I read all the replies to see if Turtle would use the Nest trifecta you should NEVER use if you're being called out/flamed.

    1. "You don't know me". Check.

    2." I have {...} friends". Check.

    3. "I feel sorry for your {...}".

  • This whole thing cracks me up.

I'mpretty sure that 2/3s of this board thinks I'm an insufferable twat, and that's fine.  I'm not combative for the sheer joy of it.  But if I see something that rubs me the wrong way, I'll pipe up.  We all have different experiences and perspectives, and sometimes it's the healthiest thing to challenge what's said and have a conversation about it.  There's no need to get defensive, and certainly not everyone needs to agree.  If someone misspoke, it'll get cleared up.  If someone has a point of view that's drastically different than mine, great.  Just be able to back it up.

And with that, I suppose it's time to "get off my soapbox."

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
