how much do you spend on groceries each week?
and, how many people are you feeding?
I just started keeping track and, even with shopping at walmart or target, I'm spending $200+ a week for 3 adults and 2 kids. Yikes! seems high to me,..

Re: how much do you spend on groceries each week?
This doesn't seem high to me:
5 people
3 meals a day
7 days a week
----------------------------
105 meals per week
Divided by $200 dollars a week
=========================
$1.94 per meal
about 125-150 or so. just dh and I. he does the regular supermarket stuff every week and i go for any special stuff I need. i dont buy all at grocery stores though-i buy meat at my butcher and a ton of stuff at my local italian market and outstanding fairway shop. i find that i tend to buy really pricey foods-but that's ok-i like them
i do go generic for a bunch of stuff-paper napkins, plates, towels etc..
Two adults - I usually spend around $90 per week at the supermarket.
We have two cats, and I spend around $45 on their food and litter about twice a month.
My lowest weekly purchase was around $40. The highest was around $250 when we first moved into our house (that price included cleaning and household items). I think I spent around $150 when we hosted Thanksgiving, and ditto for our housewarming party and also our Christmas party.
Adventures in My Kitchen
2 adults and a toddler, and we spend about $90-100/wk.
ETA: I eat breakfast at home every day. DS and DH usually just eat breakfast on weekends. We eat lunches at home during the weekend only. We eat dinner at home 6-7 nights per week.
Nobody eats every meal at home. And kids don't eat the same way as adults. So it's not $1.94 a meal.
$120-140 a week for dh and I that includes everything:
6-7: breakfasts, lunches and dinners, (we don't eat out much. We're not big on going out )
beverages, snacks
and household items and tolietries

$80-90/week that includes the occasional bottle of wine/6 pack of beer (does not include toiletries, etc.)
I feed 2 adults, however DH doesn't eat breakfast and only takes lunch 1-2 days/week, and we eat out 2 nights a week.
Just trying to put it in perspective. Geesh!
Honestly, whatever I need to. But there are a lot of variables. Almost everything in the Island Country is imported. Price of produce varies based on season, what country it came from, and how fast they need to move it. One week might be good because a whole bunch of produce came in from Africa and was in season (for there) where next week it's all from India and Pakistan, out of season, and twice the price. And on and on. I spend what I need to in order to provide a varied diet to feed three adults and a toddler, with leftovers for lunches for the adults, and incorporate as much fresh produce, fresh meat, and whole grains as possible.
You guys would be shocked at how much I pay for certain items that are considered staples in many American kitchens.
