how much do you spend on groceries each week?

and, how many people are you feeding?

I just started keeping track and, even with shopping at walmart or target, I'm spending $200+ a week for 3 adults and 2 kids. Yikes! seems high to me,..

Re: how much do you spend on groceries each week?

  • This doesn't seem high to me:

    5 people

    3 meals a day

    7 days a week

    ----------------------------

    105 meals per week

Divided by $200 dollars a week

    =========================

     $1.94 per meal

  • about 125-150 or so. just dh and I. he does the regular supermarket stuff every week and i go for any special stuff I need. i dont buy all at grocery stores though-i buy meat at my butcher and a ton of stuff at my local italian market and outstanding fairway shop. i find that i tend to buy really pricey foods-but that's ok-i like them :)

i do go generic for a bunch of stuff-paper napkins, plates, towels etc..

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:
Alison's book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • Two adults - I usually spend around $90 per week at the supermarket.

We have two cats, and I spend around $45 on their food and litter about twice a month.

My lowest weekly purchase was around $40. The highest was around $250 when we first moved into our house (that price included cleaning and household items). I think I spent around $150 when we hosted Thanksgiving, and ditto for our housewarming party and also our Christmas party.

  • I spend $500 a month for 2 adults and 2 kids. We eat out maybe twice in a month (dinner and lunches) and this includes paper products.
Married to DH 9/9/06 DD arrived 11/10/07 DS arrived 5/26/11
  • We spend $80 per week if we both are home.  (We both travel for work).  There are 2 adults who are eating pescatarian, organic meals.  Pescatarian is a vegetarian who eats fish.
  • I'd guess between $70-80 a week, but I can't say exactly because I shop at various stores (butcher, farmer's market, grocery store, etc.)
  • I spend about $50- $80 a week, depending on what I need to stock up on.  It's just my husband and I. We go out once a week for dinner, sometimes twice, so make that about $110 on average on food per week. I'll spend more if we're having company, but we live far away from our family so it's pretty rare!
  • We spend roughly $75 a week,. What helps is H gets meals at work. It's just the 2 of us.
  • I'm at about $150 a week, for 4.
Tide and Thyme , My food blog.
  • 2 adults and a toddler, and we spend about $90-100/wk.

ETA: I eat breakfast at home every day. DS and DH usually just eat breakfast on weekends. We eat lunches at home during the weekend only. We eat dinner at home 6-7 nights per week.

  • We feed a family of four for around $80 a week. I stock up a lot when things go on sale (meats, flour, sugar etc. ) and I pretty much cook everything at home with leftovers so H can have lunch for work the next day.

Nobody eats every meal at home. And kids don't eat the same way as adults. So it's not $1.94 a meal.

  • $120-140 a week for dh and I that includes everything:

6-7: breakfasts, lunches and dinners, (we don't eat out much. We're not big on going out )

    beverages, snacks

    and household items and tolietries

  • About $120 a week for 2 adults and a toddler who eats like an adult. We could probably cut it down if we didn't buy beer & wine, but don't have plans to take that off the weekly list anytime soon.

  • $80-90/week that includes the occasional bottle of wine/6 pack of beer (does not include toiletries, etc.)

I feed 2 adults, however DH doesn't eat breakfast and only takes lunch 1-2 days/week, and we eat out 2 nights a week.

  • We budget $550 per month for a family of 3 in a HCOL area.

  • Weekly we spend about $200 for groceries and household products. Every other month we go to costco with my family and stock up on major things and spend closer to $400. Alot of our food and supplies also get donated within our community on a regular basis to charity.

  • Honestly, whatever I need to. But there are a lot of variables. Almost everything in the Island Country is imported. Price of produce varies based on season, what country it came from, and how fast they need to move it. One week might be good because a whole bunch of produce came in from Africa and was in season (for there) where next week it's all from India and Pakistan, out of season, and twice the price. And on and on. I spend what I need to in order to provide a varied diet to feed three adults and a toddler, with leftovers for lunches for the adults, and incorporate as much fresh produce, fresh meat, and whole grains as possible.

You guys would be shocked at how much I pay for certain items that are considered staples in many American kitchens.

  • We budget $400/month (including everything purchased at 'grocery' stores) for a family of 5. 2 adults and 3 children (2 of which eat like adults lol).

  • It's just the two of us. About $80/week on food and toiletries but it ends up being closer to $400/month with a Sam's club run. We eat out once a week.

  • $50-$60 a week for two adults. But I also don't cook two days a week and DH spends his own money on lunches.
Whether or not you find your own way, you're bound to find some way. If you happen to find my way, please return it, as it was lost years ago. I imagine by now it's quite rusty.”

  • Roughly $165/week for a family of 4...(2 adults, 2 kids who eat like birds)
  • It's just DH and I.  I try to keep it to $75 a week on food or $100 a week including toiletries/household products.
  • Around $300 a month for 2 adults and a toddler. DD and I eat out lunch once a  week and usually so does DH. We usually eat 1 meal out a week as a family.
