tv in master bath?

my husband and electrician thought this was a great idea lol

i don't see the need lol  i mean i love taking baths but don't know if a tv is neccessary

anyone have one?  waste?

Re: tv in master bath?

  • I don't see the point.  And I would be concerned about the moisture too.
  • Seems like a waste unless you take really long baths or like to watch the news while you get ready in the morning.  We have speakers in our bathroom that are hooked up to our home automation so I can listen to news or music when I get ready.  I do like that function.
  • I think there are too many tv's, computers, iphone's etc infiltrating every aspect of our lives. We are trying to cut down use on all those things and are considering ditching the tv in our bedroom so the bathroom would be a major no go.

A-flipping MEN!!!!!!!!!  I wish more people would learn to unplug.

Fun story: a woman here in MI walked off a pier because she was too busy texting to pay attention where she was going.   Moron.

Given this info I would definitely say no TV and spend the money towards a whole house surround sound for music.

    ROFL!
  • Have and love. It is built into the wall at end of tub. You dont just put in a regular tv (at least not if you want to be code compliant). Moisture nor water on the tv will damage it - I don't remember the brand right now but it is made for being IN showers or by tubs. No worries about electricution either.  The speakers are also built into ceiling.
  • We will have one in the house we are building.  Wink  We chose not to have a whole house surround though.  We just couldn't see why we should have one.
  • I see no point besides to say "Look we have a TV in our bathroom!" when you're giving someone a tour of your house.  Who really spends that much time in their bathroom?

I would probably spend more time in a bath tub if there was a TV involved.    I can't stand soaking in a tub for very long because I don't find the silence relaxing.   TV is my white noise though, and I use it to distract me from thoughts racing through my head....the bonus is that I can ignore it or actually watch it if I want, so for me, it would make it kind of nice to have in there.

    I love this idea!

Generally, I don't see a need for a TV in the bathroom - at least not next to the tub. However, I would to have one so I could watch news while I get ready in the morning.

  • I guess I'd use it if I had a really awesome tub, like one of those with jets and whatnot.  And it would have to come with the house because I'd never install a TV in a bathroom, but if it were there already I'd probably use it.

I don't think I'd ever want one (although like other PPs said, I'd probably take longer baths if I had one!)

And, those TVs that are built in the mirrors are very cool!

I can see that.  But TV doesn't really equal relaxing to me.  I'd much rather listen to some calming music or something.  A iPod with speakers on my sink would work just fine for that.  : )  I'm not a big bather but I've never had an awesome tub either (like one that was long enough to fit all 6' of me or had jets/air massage).  We're putting in a 6' long tub in our new master bath but no jets/air massage because we just don't see ourselves having the time to use it that much.  Everyone I know who has those barely uses them so I wouldn't think having a TV to watch in the fancy tub I'd never have time to use would be any different.  The only time in my life I might ever want one is maybe when I'm retired or close to it and have more time to use something like that.  At that point I can pay someone to upgrade my tub then LOL.

I guess if I was rich like I see on TV who was able to hire help to clean my house, run errands, and take care of kids (I don't have any of those yet but you get the idea) then yeah I'd be able to take long baths and watch TV as I do it.  That's not the case though.  : )

so so true. I find it more and more that we need to unplug to unwind. the last thing i want is to watch tv in the bathroom

Netflix on your ipad works just as well, though.
