Would you judge

someone who has a cottage/cabin (their 'second home') before you even knew the quality of the property? (i.e. would you think their summer cottage is a fancypants upscale place, or their log cabin was a million bucks?)

Re: Would you judge

  • I don't get what there is to judge...do you mean would I assume it's fancy or something?

Yeah, or judge the person because they can 'afford' two homes.

  • In Maine it's very very common place to have a "camp" (this term is still funny to me) or a cottage and not be "rich." Then again, many don't have electricity or running water.....

So no, not usually. Unless they say it's ocean-front, because where I live that costs ~$1,000,000.

That's precisely what I'm referring to Smile

I had 4 wedding showers, and one was an up-north weekend with friends that my sister/MOH threw for me at our family cottage/cabin. It's nothing fancy, we don't drink the water, but it's a nice 'getaway' and is on a small lake. My sister wants the same thing next summer for her (she's getting married in Oct. 2013) and when I brought it up to someone else that I had a cottage I felt immediately judged.

  • No. I have seen some crappy cabins in my day where you want to give them $1 just to GIVE it away and some who never mention their second home and when you see it, you feel like a welfare recipient. (lol)

    Nope. Not at all.

Why would I judge someone because they can afford two homes?

No, not at all...I would judge someone who judged the person that has a vacation home, though.

  • Nope. That seems a silly thing to judge.

  • Thanks for the responses. I was put off by feel judged and thought maybe I was missing something and wanted other opinions.

Yeaaah... my cottage is in bfe/middle of nowhere, and it's not necessarily anything to brag about but I'm blessed that my parents could afford it.
