Everyone, give your life updates! (I mean EVERYONE!)

Hi July 2010 ladies! I seem to come on here every few months and vow that I'm going to be a more avid poster like I was during our engagement, but this time I'll probably just skip the self-delusion. :P

I post on other Nestie boards, and am active in my local Nestie FB group, but I still like to come on here from time to time and see what everyone's up to.

As for my DH and me, some of you know we got married pretty young (22 and 23), so almost two years later we're living a pretty similar lifestyle. We moved from a small city in Wisconsin to Chicago this December (so exciting!!) and are loving meeting new people and seeing the city. I have my first real job (say hello to the real-life Peggy Olson..I'm a Copywriter!! Ok, so it's not quite that glamorous...) and DH is working on his MBA and is working at a local retailer here, applying for purchasing positions. When we left our Wisco town, he took a demotion from an inventory purchaser to basic sales job, but I'm sure he'll find something more up his alley soon enough! Our plans for the near future include DH finding a better job, decorating our super tiny apartment, and eventually grad school for me.

What's everyone else up to?! I'm sure there are lots of Mommies!

Re: Everyone, give your life updates! (I mean EVERYONE!)

  • Hello there!

I miss you ladies. I check in every so often but I've just been horrible about posting.

We have been in Quantico since October. It's definitely a change from Cali and Nevada as well (Nevada was college). I miss California and my family every single day. And my dog too. She turned 15 in February and I just wish I could see her more. I'm always afraid that she won't be there the next time I make it home.

I haven't been back to Cali since we got here.

H is nearly done with his training that we came out here for. He'll be done in May. Then he starts more training this summer. We should be in Quantico into the fall, and then hopefully we'll be at our duty station before Christmas. My fingers are crossed for a station in California. At least I'd be in the same state as my family.

We adopted a kitten in September. She's cute but she's out of control, and drives me crazy. I love her but she's a lot to handle.

We plan on getting a dog when we are in a house, probably at our duty station at the end of the year. And I'm also off of BC now so we're just waiting for the right time to come. :)

  • Where's Quantico? I'm not familiar with it!

Stay strong! It's tough to be away from your family, but enjoy this part of life :)

  • Magpie-glad to hear you are doing well and the move worked out.  I remember you posting about that.  :-)

Kaynix-glad to hear you are doing well too after your move.  I can't imagine being that far from my family.  Hang in there!!

DH and I bought a house in January 2011.  We love our house and our neighbors.  We have both been working a lot lately.  We try to see and keep up with family and friends also.  Time just seems to be getting away from us.  We have some projects we need to do around the house.

I went off BC in August and we are TTC.  I appreciate any vibes you can send!  I am looking forward to spring break next week and am ready for summer break as well!

  • hey loves! I'm also a random checker-inner anymore...but you can always find me on Facebook! And check out my new business! I'm now selling on Etsy :) www.etsy.com/shop/gingerboxboutique

As most of you know we had our little boy in November...Conner is now almost 5 months and getting so big! He's such a little joy and I just can't get enough of him :)

We are still stationed here in WA, and we're getting ready to go through a deployment after the summer, so thoughts and prayers are always appreciated!

Hope all is well for everyone else! I miss you ladies! Come say hi to me on Facebook sometime :)

  • I feel like I've posted a lot about what's going on with me lately. We're in the process of buying a new home (we found one!) and selling our townhouse. It's had a lot of ups and downs so far. Buying the new home finally looks like it is going well and that the loan should be fully processed within the next week, but we still have a month until closing. We had buyers for our townhome, but they fell through after the appraisal process. We've been back on the market 5 days and already had one offer. It was rather pathetic, but it was an offer. We are holding out for something more substantial. Thankfully we still have some time before we get desperate.

I am also in my last 6ish weeks of my Master's program. I am so excited to be done with it and ready to move on to worrying about more important things, like summer vacation. I'm hosting a bridal shower this next weekend and am in that wedding the next Saturday. So, my spring break will be spent in CA rushing around seeing friends all over the state and helping my friend with last minute wedding stuff.

Life is busy, but mostly good!

  • I just got on here today thinking about how it had been a while and wish I kept up more with this board-glad to see this post.

Magpie-sounds super exciting moving to Chicago!  What a great adventure for you and DH to move somewhere new-especially a happenin' place like that.  I live in a sleepy little town in Ohio so I'm sort of envious :-)

As for us, we are just adjusting to life as new parents.  Our son, Cole, was born in December and has brought so much joy into our lives.  It is a big job being new parents but we are just trying to adjust and enjoy every little moment.  Two days ago he laughed for the first time and it was the cutest thing.

DH is still working as a network administrator, and I am working 1-2 days a week plus a little bit of on call rotation on some weekends as a nuclear medicine tech.

In April we are looking forward to a night in PIttsburgh just DH and I while my sister watches the baby.  This was DH's birthday present from me.  Then in August we are going to the Outer Banks for a week vacation.  Our entire family is going (there are 19 of us!!!) and we have a huge beach house with a hot tub and pool so it should be a blast.

We are also training to run a 10k in May.  I really enjoy doing races and have done a mini-triathlon and a marathon relay in the past, so I wanted to train for something to get back in pre-baby shape.  My sister and her roommate, and DH and I are all going to run it.  It's 6 miles and so far I can run 3 miles, so I have quite a bit of training to do still!  I'm not worried about my time or anything though I just want to finish.

It's great catching up on what everyone is up to, congrats to all the new mamas and good luck to those TTC!

  • No big changes here.  I'm still subbing, though luckily the longer leave positions have been keeping me busy- 4 months in 8th grade math, 1 month in 8th grade (multi-subjects), 1 month 8th grade special ed, and now 5th grade.  DH is working 50+ hour weeks again, as his work is still really busy (works with foreclosures).  We did win new countertops so we're looking forward to updating the kitchen a little.  We're not TTC, but I would love it if we could start soon. Unfortunately, I'd prefer a full time job first just to make sure I'd have a job to go back to so TTC probably won't be in the picture for another year or two.

  • I posted late last week about my biggest update....the birth of my daughter last Monday.  She is the light of my life and biggest joy.

Still teaching Kindergarten (although not for the rest of the school year!)

  • Glad to hear Chicago is going well!

We are adjusting to life with our little girl!  She was born on 3/15 and we couldn't be happier since having her join our lives.  Other than that not much else is going on :)

  • I love to read about what everyone's been up to.

DH and I will be in Houston for one more year before hopefully heading back to the northeast. I'm in grad school, just still chugging along. Looking forward to summer, although it's already starting to get pretty hot down here. I joined a dance company last summer, and that's keeping me crazy busy.

We're deciding right now if we want to renew our current lease or look for somewhere new. I can't wait until we get settled somewhere and can buy our first house. We don't have any current plans for TTC, but I think we're both getting a little antsy.

  • Nice to see what some people are up to (mostly the girls I don't have on my facebook yet!)

Here: hanging in there - being a mom, working, school (OFFICIALLY got word that I am good to graduate in december, woohoo), and just doing the same stuff we always do. Pretty boring and typical.

Oh and we're starting to talk about kiddo #2 and age gaps. But that is a while off, no worries, girls!

Oh wow you are brave mama!  I am still firm in the fact that #2 is waaaaaaay off for us, but recently my sister and a friend announced pregnancies (still really early and are a secret) and it REALLY made me start thinking about #2.  It just brought back so many memories of getting that BFP and they both got theirs within days of when I got mine last year so it made me emotional.

  • Hi ladies!!! I miss you all! So glad to hear that everyone is doing well.

Update on us: not much! Still living near Boston and still really want to move back south. We've both been looking and applying for jobs so the move will happens whenever one of us can get a job, whether that's soon or later, who knows. DH is in a masters program and will be finished with class work this summer, officially graduating in December. We have a bunch of trips planned this spring and summer but we are excited about the busy schedule. I have been off BC since January and we are hoping to TTC this summer. Ideally DH will have a full time job before we start so let's hope he gets something soon!

We never wanted our kids far apart to begin with. And we're just having a discussion....like I said it's won't be anytime soon, but it won't be 3 years from now either, you know? And I don't see it as brave, haha, I see it as cowardly because I'm trying to pop out all the kids we want before I'm in my 30's (b/c of my health history of heart problems)

  • AWWW babies!

For you ladies discussing age gaps - one thing to consider. I'm 5 years older than my brother (the second oldest in my fam), and after him, everyone is like 2 years apart. I always feel so separated from the rest of my sibs bc they are all peers, whereas I'm always at a totally different stage in life (my sister was my MOH when she was getting ready for prom). So when I have kids, I don't space them out too far ... of course, I've never gone through pregnancy yet :P

  • EEK sorry it took me so long to respond! I had at one point typed up a long response post on my phone, was ready to post it, and must have hit the screen the wrong way, and lost the whole thing...was too frustrated at technology after that to retype to post lol.

    Anyway, here goes!!

HI LADIES!!!!!!!!! Sorry i've been MIA...i should just stop saying that already because I sound like a broken record. Here's the scoop. My new job is AMAZING. I'm no longer working at my old job, still the same company, though. Still kinda in the same field but now im auditing it! I learn something new (many somethings, actually) every day and its something i can see myself staying in for a long time. Its so interesting and fun! And im not on call and *gasp* i work only 40 hours per week!!! They even sent me NYC for a full week all expenses paid for training. How freaking awesome is that!?

Other than that, family, house, the same stuff. Been reading quite a bit (love my kindle) and starting to plan for gardening again!! Yay spring! Don't know if i told you all, but i had this amazing bulb garden that i planted in my front yard (our house is set further back from the road, this was on the edge of the road) in the fall. It was like 200 bulbs and was going to be glorious in the spring once everything bloomed and i also had my adored hostas (i love those things) there. Well, in november, after the big storms we had here, tons of companies came up to cut trees and things that had been damaged, and one of those tree cutting trucks lost its brakes on my street (which is super steep) and ended up landing in my garden to stop his truck from hitting somebodys house (thank god nobody got hurt). BUT my poor garden was completely destroyed, like only a few bulbs survived the crash only. IT was bad. So i have lots of gardening to do this spring to restore it!!! Im looking at it not as a loss, though, but as an opportunity to re-design!!! At least i love gardening :)

Otherwise, no baby talk for us. Only NON-baby talk haha. We have nieces and nephews and they are definitely PLENTY for us!

  • I know I'm late to the party, but I still wanted to say how good it is to read how everyone is doing. So many mommies, new homes and better jobs! Very exciting! DH and I both have our same jobs. He'll graduate as a PTA ina few weeks, yay. I got a new DSLR and keep contemplating how to make it as an artist... got to get out of this cubicle! Our little Jason will be 4 months this Sunday! I just can't believe it went that fast. He's been a pretty good baby, but still doesn't sleep thru the night yet. Life is unbelievably busy, but its good right now :)
