Those of you with Thundershirts

We just got one for our dog yesterday.  Today the weather gods helpfully provided us with a thunderstorm so we could test it out.  Poor little Avery was still shaky and anxious.  For those of you that it worked for, did it work right away or did it take awhile.  We did try to acclimate her to the shirt yesterday when nothing "scary" was happening.

  • We use it for general anxiety.  We haven't had a thunderstorm since we've had him so I'm not sure how he'd react.

In regard to anxiety, he is a completely different dog when he wears it.  He's a 4 mo old rat terrier and he's wild.  We put any type of shirt of him and he immediately yawns and settles down.  It's really quite amazing!

  • It didn't do anything for us and I eventually returned it. But I do remember reading that it may take a few days for it to work.

  • We use it for general anxiety and separation anxiety. Ironically she could care less about storms.  For her, she settles down immediately first out of confusion "what the hell is this?"  It didn't help with her SA initially, but did help after a few uses.  We learned to put it on her randomly and take it off randomly and use it sometimes when we leave.

I'd give it the full 45-days. If it doesn't work, take it back.
  • Thanks for replies.  I have heard so many good things about it, I had high hopes.  Hopefully after a few uses it will start helping our little nutcase . . . I mean sweet puppy dog.

  • We have not had much luck with ours but Max is a little "special".  But I am remaining hopeful it might help take the edge off after awhile. It has been really helpful for many people though.
