WWYD?

Today my 10k training schedule calls for a 70 min interval run (warm up, 3 min brisk, 2 recovery, x10, cool down), but I just remembered that I have soccer. The game will be 60 mins minus a 5 min halftime and possible subs.

Do you think I could count my game as today's run? If not, I'll have to find another day to catch up on it (my race is in 2 weeks).

Re: WWYD?

  • I think it depends on just how much running you end up doing in the game. Soccer usually involves short sprints effectively, so maybe after the game you could do a quick run with maybe 2-3 intervals? It won't be the same, but I think the idea is just to make your body work for a long-ish period of time, so if you're moving during the game that's good, and adding in a little steady-state running afterward would balance it out I think. But I'm not an expert.
