freezing meals for new mom
my sister is expecting her first baby any day now, so I wanted to make some meals, freeze them, and drop them off when the baby is born.
How well does pasta freeze? I was thinking of making lasagna and some kind of spaghetti casserole.
Also on my list were meatloaf, tater tot casserole, and baked BBQ chicken.
Any suggestions? thanks!
ETA: would muffins be a good idea too? so they have something for breakfast? She lives with her boyfriend & our other sister... but neither are too great in the kitchen. I don't want her to have to worry about much other than the baby at first.
Re: freezing meals for new mom
And this is why I always wanted a sister, lol
Lasagna freezes amazingly well so good choice. Sauces, soups and chilis tend to freeze well also so u could make her a pot of meatballs and marinara that way she only has to boil pasta one night. Baked Mac-n-cheese freezes greet. Quiches which could be served at breakfast also hold up well in the freezer (can you tell I've been working on my stash
My mom makes chicken pot pie and puts it in the freezer uncooked so they (dad and brother) just need to cook it in the oven for an hour. Lasagna is a great freezer item. I also have a mexican casserole on my blog that my dad said did really well frozen.
I bet no one would be upset if you brought muffins. It is definitely a nice thought and I'm sure it would be appreciated!
Baked muffins freeze well--I'd wrap individually in plastic wrap and then put them all in a freezer bag together so that they don't get lost in the depths of the freezer haha.
Joelen has a great freezer meals collection:
