***taratru*** teaching

Hey!

I noticed  you posted the other day about getting out of teaching and finding something new. The other day at work I had such a horrible day... tears and all in the principals office. Our principal is great though and it's not taboo to cry in her office.

I just don't know how many more years I can handle it. The lack of support for kids that used to be in self-contained rooms are now being part of the regular classroom. Which I am completely behind, but if that is going to happen we need support. Like more support than sauntering in my classroom for 5 minutes a day.

Anyway, what are you looking into? I want to sort of start looking to see what is out there. But I feel like I don't know how to do anything else, ya know?

I'm sure I'll be teacing a bit longer but like I said I'm keeping my eyes and ears open.

Re: ***taratru*** teaching

  • Ugh, I hate this time of year. I think we all go through something like this.  For me, I'm just...bored.  I don't feel challenged and I don't really have the energy or drive to do the things that could make my job more challenging (teach a different class, rewrite curriculum) because that doesn't really change anything, ya know?

I have an administrator license, and I would like to use it, but there's *nothing* in our district for next year.  Three principals are retiring after next year so I expect some assistant positions will open up, but who knows how the politics will work.

The job I applied for this month was at our state's activities association, which is what I would really love to do.  But apparently because I don't have any administrative experience, I didn't make the interview cut.  That bums me out, because in my role as student council adviser, all I do is admin work.

There really isn't much else I can do.  We can't move, I don't feel like now is the time to change careers (not with three kids), I already have three college degrees so school isn't really an option.  Not a whole lot of call out there for people who can read fast and write research papers well.  I'm just gonna suck it up, get through the next year and hope that *something* opens up then.

I'm sorry your principal hasn't been supportive, though.  I hate feeling that way. I hope she starts to do a better job with that for you, because that makes a huge difference.  Our admin does a pretty good job in that sense, and I'm so grateful.
