For those who drink protein shakes
Why?
I'm having a hard time doing some of my crossfit workouts and some days it seems like I just can't eat enough or don't. I'd like to get something in me in the afternoon where I'm going to have a harder workout than just running. Is a protein shake what I'm looking for?
How did you go about knowing what you wanted? Or what do I look for?

Re: For those who drink protein shakes
I drink them because I don't eat a lot of meat, hence my diet is very light in the protein department. They will definitely fill you up. In terms of type/brand I admit I just bought what they had at Sam's Club (EAS) and didn't do much research
I have heard from several sources to drink them after lifting to help your muscles repair.
3/12 5 mi -- 49:22 Pace: 9:52
5/1 Half Marathon -- 2:11:22 Pace: 10:01
5/22 10k -- 56:29 Pace: 9:00
5/24 3.6 -- 29:03 Pace: 8:18
7/10 15k -- 1:44:46 injured Pace: 11:14
10/29 5k -- 28:24 Pace: 9:04
I drink them to add more protein to my diet on days that I haven't had enough from other sources. I will also have them for a quick breakfast sometimes.
If you want to incorporate them into your routine I would suggest using them after your CF workouts, because your muscles need extra protein after lifting and other exercise to repair themselves properly.
I think it's best to buy small containers of whichever powder you're interested in in order to avoid spending a lot on something you hate. I have used EAS in the past and currently use Pure Protein. I like them both.

I drink them after lifting to help my muscle recover properly. I find them helpful and can tell a difference in how I feel after a really hard workout.
DH did a lot of research when we first started drinking them and we buy Whey Factor, it is hormone free, no sugar added, and no artificial sweeteners. Plus, I think it taste really good, its not so chemically tasting like other protein. But it is a little bit more expensive then most.
I think PP idea about buying small containers until you find one that you like is a good idea.
