Someone posted this recipe on another site.
The ultimate lazy dinner, but my kids love it! My laziest, easiest to make meal that everyone loves:
1 can of biscuits
1 can of chicken (the kind i get is 12.5 oz)
1 can of cream of chicken soup
1 bag frozen mixed veggies (I get the cauliflower, broccoli, carrot mix, get the steamer bag so you can be extra lazy)
Put the biscuits in the oven to bake. While the biscuits are baking dump the chicken soup in a sauce pot and add the chicken (stock and all) break up the chicken chunks a bit and stir together. While that is warming up steam the veggies in the microwave. When the veggies are done add them to the sauce. Stir and let finish warming until the biscuits are done. If you wanna get fancy add a bay leaf. When the biscuits come out split in half and spoon the sauce over the biscuits. Season to taste with salt and pepper and you are good to go. We call this chicken over biscuits and my kids love it! It's taste kinda like a pot pie.
I posted this response: I hope you don't take this offensively, but it sounds like there's a lot of sodium in that dish.
I think the op took offense, and someone else said I was rude. Should I have just kept my mouth shut?
Re: Was I rude?
I don't think you were rude. Your response was much nicer than what I was thinking when I read the recipe, and you made an effort to show that your intent wasn't to offend.
People get defensive, but if they are going to post it, they need to be prepared for other people having opinions and not always agreeing or being complimentary.
Not if it was the internet. If it was a Facebook friend or whatever I might think it was a bit unnecessary (wait...canned soup and refrigerator biscuits have sodium? Who knew?). But that sounds like a whole lot of processed saltiness to me, and like pp said...she posted a "recipe" on the internet, people can comment at will.
We've flamed many a recipe like that on this board.
But probably it's best to go by the old saying: "if you don't have anything nice to say ..."

I agree.
P.S. That sounds G-ROSS.
yea I showed DH and we both agree it's gross, but that was about it. I probably wouldn't have commented though
If no one ever questions anything, then uninformed people will not learn.
I can think of quite a few people on this board over the years who started out here not knowing about the pitfalls of processed foods, but now know better and cook differently because someone asked a question or made a comment, and they were made aware.
I am not saying that people should be rude about it, but there are ways to question or comment without being a 'meanie'.
From Hey To Horses
I agree - mainly because it was unnecessary.
I've seen it happen several times here and again, thought it was rude and unnecessary.
"Like" me on Facebook
I don't think it was rude, but maybe uncalled for is a better term. They didn't post it asking for advice on the recipe - they were simply sharing something that their family loves. It's fine if it's something you wouldn't feed yourself on your own family, and I get where your comment was coming from, but if she was curious about improving her family's nutrition, I imagine she'd have asked questions to that effect.
Apologies for that run-on sentence.
Rude, a little. Uncalled for, sure.
But was I the only one who found "If you wanna get fancy add a bay leaf" just completely funny?

I don't know about you ellkaysmom, but when I really want to get fancy at my house, I pull out a bay leaf. Works every time :P

Yes, but a more constructive way to help someone learn would be to share a recipe (perhaps a low-sodium version?) in a non-condescending way instead of just pointing out the obvious. If it's a dish that their family enjoys, and someone says something negative, of course they're going to be defensive. That's human nature. Instead, I'd say something like ... "this sounds good (white lie) - I like to make something similar with ... a, b, and c"

Thanks everyone for your responses! My intent wasnt to offend, but the quote above is what was going through my head when I responded. I used to cook with processed foods, canned cream of X, until I started reading message boards like this and reading how bad it is for you. But yes, I can see how my response came off a little mean, and I should have probably offered more constructive criticism, such as an alternative to the canned cream of chicken, etc.

This sounds like something my dh would LOVE... maybe throw a Kraft slice on top, or Velveeta! Better hide this recipe from him! lol!!
Plus, he'd probablly pour more salt on top...
