Not 100% sex...Feminine issues question?

Hi Ladies,

I've never had a yeast infection, or any other type of feminine issue. For the past few days, I've had a lot of itching issues in my vagina. I don't have any pain or any burning sensations, and I don't have any discharge or anything that looks unusual. The itching feels like it's coming from inside my body, not outside.

The thing is, I started a new job in December. My health insurance will not be available until April 16, so I can't exactly run to the doctor. Does anyone have any ideas of that this could be? How much do walk-in clinics, like Walgreens, usually cost?

 Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Not 100% sex...Feminine issues question?

  • Sounds like yeast to me.

You could try an over the counter yeast treatment --- the generics usually run a bit cheaper. See if that helps your symptoms.

If the symptoms persist, see a doc.  Planned Parenthood or a walk in clinic at a teaching hospital, if money's an issue. GL.

  • I agree I would try something over the counter first.  If you are really miserable you can try an urgent care but I would call them first to see if they can actually test for that since not all urgent cares provide the same services. By calling first you can also see how much it will run.  Good luck!
  • Do you use spermicide? or are you using a new type of condom? new sex toys or cleaners for your toys? I know when my husband and I tried spermicide a while back that made me very ichy for a while after use. If not to those probably a yest infection. There are over the conter products you can use.
  • There is an OTC test for yeast infections now. It doesn't tell you what is wrong if it isn't yeast; it just tells you if it's yeast. You might try it before picking up any yeast creams b/c if you have BV or a reaction to a new detergent or something, the creams won't help.

  • On the shelves of Walgreens there is a BV testing kit. Try that before purchasing some OTC yeast infection medication.

If the test reveals BV- go see your doctor. If the test is not positive, you have a yeast infection. Buy the OTC kit and if there is no resolution, seek out the nearest Planned Parenthood. They are usually willing to work with you on costs.

Good luck! Let us know how everything unfolds!

  • Another thing, what kind of panties do you wear.  Cotton is best obviously.  Also try sleeping a few nights comando style so your area gets more air.  This is weird I know but it does help.

  • If it isn't yeast, an OTC yeast product won't help but it won't hurt anything either. I'd give it a shot and go to urgent care if it doesn't clear up. Non-professional opinion. :)
  • Make sure the Walgreens you go to actually has a clinic.  Don't just let the cashier check out out.  I did that once and it did not get rid of that itchy, burning feeling.  good luck!
  • Thanks for all the help everyone! I grabbed some Monistat today, and will try that to see if it works. If not, I'll have to go to PP or urgent care.  Thanks again for the advice!
