Long story short, I've been in & out of the hospital since the beginning of February with severe abdominal pain. I've I had so many tests done & to go to my OBGYN tonight and find out I have endometriosis. I'm also told there is a chance I may never have children. She wants to give me a shot that will put me through a menopause state for a whole year. Am I wrong for wanting to get a 2nd opinion. I've never had children & in June I'll be 30 years old. I feel like the life has been sucked out of me.
If you've had this or are going through it please share your thoughts and what the healing time is if any.
Feeling very hopeless...

This is 100% how I feel. Thank you. I'll be getting a 2nd on Monday!

My sister has severe endometreosis, she was having laparoscopic surgery a couple times a year to clean things up.. Eventually it came down to trying the *temporary* early menopause treatments, or never being able to have children. She went through it for a full year, as her and her fiance were wanting to wait until they were married to have kids (and the doctor told her this was basically her only shot left). She had minor side effects, such as hot flashes; however once the medicine was out of her blood system her husband and her started ttc. They got pregnant the first month, and she is now in her 2nd trimester. She was and is extremely active (marathons, triathalons), and this treatment provided her the opportunity to still have kids.
ETA: She is 31
My best friend was diagnosed with Endo in college. She had a couple of lap procedures young and her doctor's also put her on a med to "induce menopause" and she too was told that "someday, MAYBE, IF we take you off the med, you MIGHT be able to have kids."
That being said, while she was on the medication she and her husband were not having protected sex and they got pregnant. We were all amazed since she did not think she would ever get to be a mom. Then once they had their first they were unsure if and when to try for a second since the first was such a surprise. They started trying early thinking it would be difficult and lo and behold they got pregnant again and they now have two children.
To put it in perspective, her endo was really bad - she had a total of 8 laproscopic procedures on her uterus since college until she had a hysterectomy and eventually and oopherectomy (sp?) when she was 26. Yes she is younger than you but I just wanted to say that it might be possible so I would get a second opinion and if you are ready for kids then there is no harm in trying.
Don't ever feel bad or question getting a 2nd, 3rd or even 4th opinion. It is your right to get as many answers as you need to feel comfortable with your treatment!
i agree with all PP, my friend was diagnosed at age 19..many lap procedures, and was told she most likely wouldn't have kids. She refused to have the meds to put her in early menopause, and refused the hysterectomy one dr suggested.
She went through treatments(clomid, iui) and got pregnant. she is 31 with a 6 month old. As hard as endo was, and fertility treatments, it was worth it..oh and on top of severe endo, she has one good tube, a misshapen uterus due to many surgeries, and pcos...and the reproductive specialist never once said don't try for a baby.
