My oven/range is maybe 10-15 years old, and I knew since I moved in last summer that when the oven is on, the range gets warm. At my old apartment, the hot air output was a separate raised rectangle at the back center of the range, so I knew not to touch that one little are if the oven was on. I guess I didn't realize how hot the range at my new apt gets, but when I went to lift a baking sheet that I had placed on the stovetop (due to lack of other available counter space) I bumped my knuckle of my middle finger on the burner and totally burned my finger!
I put toothpaste on it and aside from a small blister, it all seems to be ok today, though a little dry & stiff.
This is the first time I've ever hurt myself while cooking (
Re: burned my finger :o(
Consider yourself lucky that this is the first time you've hurt yourself. I probably burn myself on average 2-3 times per year. Most recently was earlier this week when I brushed some crumbs off of our smooth-top range. I momentarily forgot that DH had just had the back eye on, but remembered as soon as I touched it. Bye bye fingerprints on my middle and ring finger.
I got burned the first time this winter
I had made Giada's braciole recipe, which starts off on the stove and then finishes in the oven. I took the saute pan out of the oven using oven mitts. A minute or two later I grabbed the handle to move it, and completly burned my entire right hand. My husband thought I was a dope....until he did the same thing a minute later. Of course we had people over for dinner. What a disaster! And the whole lack of finger print thing really freaked us out since we didn't know that would happen.
try putting some coconut oil on it. (if you have some)
I cannot count the times I have burned myself, or been burned by someone else. sigh.....the joys of working at a resturant as a teenager!

Try leaving a towel or oven mitt draped over the handle after you take it out of the oven...it really helps cut down on that!
