Puppy Won't stop eating her poop. Help!!

I'm about to lose my mind with this dog! She's a stubborn 6 month old Dachshund and I'm at my wits end with her. She ate half a bowl of food and then when she was put outside she dug up poo in the yard was about to eat it, she does this ALL THE TIME!

She's been super hard to house break, she potties in her cage and then precedes to eat it, I've caught her and the house will smell like poo when i get home, I'll look in her crate and there's "crumbs" and the thing reaks. She has the smallest crate I could find. I'm really on the verge of tears!

I went from having a very easy going wonderful dog for 9 years to having 2 dogs who get on every last nerve i own! I love them to death but really somethings gotta give!

/vent over.

Help me please!! TIA

Jennie, Mom to 1 toddler, 2 crazy dogs and a guinea pig!

  • Well one thought is to go outside with her and clean up her poop as soon as she goes so she doesn't eat it. Second thought is to buy natural tablets from the pet store that make their poop taste gross (I am assuming seeing as I never taste tested it lol)

I had multiple dogs and I couldn't stop one of them from eating the poop of the others and I couldn't clean it up fast enough because there were 3 of them. I used the pills (honestly forgot the name of them) but they were all natural ingredients and it worked pretty well.

For the most part I do go outside with them, but it's not always easy with a toddler and a deployed husband I clean poop every other day, unless it rains, which its been doing alot of lately.

I'll have to get the pills, didn't know such a thing existed thanks!

  • I have read that dogs don't like peeing or pooping where they sleep which is why there's probably "crumbs" in the cage.

Ive also read that you can put tobasco sauce on the poop if you don't have time to clean right away so that the dog will associate the hot spicy taste with the poop. I have tried pineapple (great going down the first time but not so great going down the second time). I don't know if it really worked for her tho.

You are welcome! I know I got them at PetCo or Petsmart. Good luck!

  • My dog ate his poop. We tried pineapple in his food (crushed), tobasco sauce on his poop, and had to buy the pills from Petsmart. They're called 'Deter'.
