NPCER: help me find/make a jockey costume for my baby

I may have mentioned that we dress up for Easter. That's a long story that starts with booze and ends with we're awesome. Anyways, this year's theme is Kentucky Derby. Big hats are in the works. I need to make A into a jockey. I can get white leggings, and I think I have some ugg boots, but I need to buy or probably make some kind of shirt and helmet. Ideas?

Bonus points if you can come up with something cheap/easy for MrP.

Re: NPCER: help me find/make a jockey costume for my baby

  • Do you have a Baby Depot/Burlington Coat Factory near you? They usually have some shiny soccer shirt type jerseys that you can use for a top. As far as the helmet goes, I am stumped.

This sounds like a fun party!

Does Mr.P have any seersucker pants and a bowtie?

  • Great idea, thanks! I found a soccer shirt at goodwill that is appropriately obnoxious :)

  • I was going to suggest some sort of obnoxious jersey or taking a polo shirt and adding a diagonal stripe or something.  Bike helmet?  Or using a bowl upside down and adding a strap?

I like the idea of bowtie/seersucker for Mr.P.  Or you could do a linen type suit/pant option with bowtie.  He could wear a hat, too, of some kind.  My uncle and others that go to the Derby every year wear hats.  Basically a southern gentleman type look.  :)
