Dog teeth broken - update

I had posted several days back that my 10yo lab broke some teeth- we think a door hit him in the face at my DH's work.  Anyway, turns out he's going to have to get two teeth extracted :(  They were starting to get a bit infected & the vet said that he is a very tough guy.  We started antibiotics & are continuing him on his regular pain med, with an option to add one if needed.  He hasn't had any trouble eating or anything, so I think we're okay.  He'll have them out in a few days- their schedule was packed & we've got him managed for now.

The biggest issue is that my DH & I lost a dog after a dental procedure about 10 years ago so whenever he's had to go under anesthesia we get really wigged out.  We thought after his teeth cleaning last spring that would be the last time we put him under since he is a senior & this has me all scared.  The vet is so compassionate & said if there was any other way to deal with this she would do it, but she really feels it's the best thing for him.  I don't disagree, but I HATE him going under :(
