PB style slipcovered sofa... anyone?

This has probably been hashed out before on these boards, but I've looked at a million sofas and I keep coming back to this one style. We are renovating a 1960s rambler/ranch and I want to keep the palette nice and clean with lots of white, grays, and light blues. Don't want to pay the PB price, but Badcock has a similar sofa that will work for us. I have 2 concerns: 1) I know it's a slipcover but dang that thing is going to be hard to keep clean  and  2) the fabric is not a true white, but more of an off white canvas color and I'm worried that will clash with the white trim we have and perhaps future furniture. (We considered the Ikea Ektorp since we know we can get it in white, but are worried about the quality of the frame itself.)

Any and all thoughts opinions welcome. TIA!

  • I wouldn't worry about matching your sofa to your white trim. It'll look fine. :)

  • I bought the JCP PB knockoff sofa a while back. I have a 2 year old and big slobbery boxer. I can spot clean the slip covers and at least 2xs per year I take all of the pieces to the dry cleaner. It has held up amazingly well, and I have a light khaki canvas style slip-cover.

  • I wouldn't worry about it not being a true white.  I have a mix of white/off white all through my house and I think it looks fine.  (I actualy have a white sofa and a slightly off white one in the same room.)

We bought the ektorp a little over a month ago and the frame seems extremely sturdy.  It's a much heavier sofa than my old one so I don't forsee any issues.

We have two dogs and two kids so I do keep the seat area of the sofa covered with a throw blanket.  My dogs have still managed to get wet feet on it a few times but I just spot clean and it's come right off.  I also bought an extra slipcover since they are so cheap ($50).  The white slipcover can pick up lint so you have to be careful what you put on it.  So far it's been really easy to get off though.

  • Thanks ladies. We also have a dog and are expecting our first baby, so it's good to hear that the slip covers are easy to maintain.
