I know several of you all are on Pinterest (you all got me hooked!) - had a successful pinterest experiment today and I thought I'd share. There have been a few posts lately about cleaning the trays under your stove's electric burners or the grates for a gas stove using a little ammonia and sealing the parts up in a bag. We have a gas stove and I hate cleaning the grates. Stuff burns on super fast so they always look terrible. We didn't take our stove out of the kitchen during demo because we didn't have anywhere else to put it so it was super dusty and nasty and needed a really deep clean before we put it back into use. I figured I had nothing to lose by giving it a try.
Most of the posts I saw give a range of 30 minutes to 12 hours to let it all sit. I went about 4 hours and pulled them out. Aside from having to open the bags in the bathroom with the fan going and window open due to the fumes, it worked amazingly well. I barely had to scrub them and I think if I had left them longer, I wouldn't have to do it at all. All the burnt on stuff mostly came right off with just a sponge scrub.
Just thought I'd pass along an idea success story!
Re: A pinterest success story
Nice! Anything that eases cleaning is good in my books.
Pinterest is totally addictive. I just joined after being on the fence about it for again and I love all the ideas that are on there.
