Vinyl wall decals and textured walls

Has anyone tried to put one of these on a textured wall? I wanted to do a tree in my nursery, but the directions said it wasn't for textured walls. Just wanted to see if anyone has had success or if I should go another route. Thanks!

FWIW, this is the one I am looking at: Giant Polka Dots Tree Wall Decal

Re: Vinyl wall decals and textured walls

  • Is your wall just kind of rough, or does it have a really pronounced texture?  My walls had a lot of divots and things, and the decals went on fine.  I've heard of other people using them on textured walls, but just rubbing them really well.  I can understand why the seller wouldn't guarantee it, though.

  • Ditto pp. What kind of texture are we talking about. Mine has a very light all over texture and it's never been an issue.
  • I have an orange peel (sp?) texture on mine and the decals in DD's nursery went up and stayed up just fine.

  • That design is so cute, but very simple... could you just paint it?

I would call mine an orange peel texture. I've never been to a house without textured walls, so I keep thinking that those things have to work!

Maybe, but I'm not so gifted in the artistic department. Stick out tongue

  • I tried them on my apartment while and no go. 90% of it fell off within a month or so.

  • My walls have a very slight texture and I tried putting up a decal in my DS's nursery - it didn't stick at all :-(

  • Part of it also depends on whether or not the paint is flat, eggshell or semi-gloss. The glossier the paint, the harder it is to get the decals to stick sometimes.

But with texture, its not that it wont go on, you'll just have to work hard at using the little squeegee thingy to press into all the nooks and crannies. You should be fine.
