Alright so my DH told me today there is a 98% chance that He will leave for Guam and I will follow him a little later. Which is fine with me, no big deal. I just wanted to know how that works exactly.. Will I be on his orders or will they have to be amended? (we are waiting on my no-fee passport paperwork) I guess I just don't understand the process of me getting over there. So if anyone has any insight that would be awesome!
I'm a planner by nature and this kinda sucks lol. ahwell, I suppose it's something I'll have to get used to.
Re: confused again..
If you are married, and it is an accompanied tour (which Guam should be), then you will be on his orders.
Is there a reason he wants to go ahead first and have you follow later? This isn't something I've ever heard of being mandated, but I know a few couples who prefer to do PCSes this way. If you don't have kids, and there aren't any loose ends to tie up at your current location (sale of a house, finishing out a school year or job term), then I don't see any reason you shouldn't go at the same time.
Do you need a passport to go to Guam? I thought it was a US Territory....
It could be something similar to Korea where you need a command sponsorship before dependents are allowed to accompany. If that is the case its a process that can be started before he leaves.
I had a friend whose H was sent to Guam but it was only for like 10 months so she obviously didn't go with him.
I'm thinking about this passport thing a bit more. I can't imagine you'd need a no-fee b/c you don't need a visa to stay in Guam. The no-fee is so you can get something other than a tourist visa. Mine hadn't arrived when I moved to Japan, so I just traveled on my tourist passport. They still stamped it with my SOFA visa, but that was transferred once my no-fee arrived.
However, you should definitely get a tourist passport if you don't have one already. I couldn't imagine going to Guam and not traveling to nearby countries.
You may need a passport to enter Guam if you're arriving from somewhere other than the US, though, even if you're a US citizen. I'm not googling for you, but I'm sure entry requirements are easily found to answer whether you need a passport or not.
I just googled becuase I thought that you didn't need one...but this site said that, after 9/11, US citizens need passports

My H's command told him I will be needing a no-fee because we will be flying from the U.S to Japan and from Japan to Guam. They just gave him the form I need for the no-fee and I am waiting for it in the mail. When I get it I have to file all the paperwork and all that. He is supposed to report to Guam in May-ish, I don't think I will have the passport by then. When I go to file the paperwork I'm going to ask about getting it expedited.
He is still waiting on his official orders so our hope is that he is waiting on them a week or so longer than they thought he would be and I can get the no-fee just in time but I'm kinda skeptical about that lol.
He is doing his out processing at tech school, which was not long enough for me to go with him. As far as having to talk with the travel people who would I talk to in this case? His c.o also told him if I didn't have the passport in hand the day they made travel arrangements that he would have to report to Guam and I would come once I got my no-fee. I'm frustrated with this c.o though.. My H asked him weeks ago if I'd be needing a no-fee to see if we could get it taken care of and he said I wouldn't because Guam is a U.S territory. The day they begin out processing he tells H he was misinformed and I will be needing one O.o
BUT as long as I end up in Guam with my Hubby I'm a happy lady
