Employee of the Year

So here's the deal...I started working front desk at this hotel a year ago. I started as part time night Audit. Within a few months I was moved to audit/front desk. Within a few months from that I was moved to regular front desk full time. Within a year I had the night manager position. If anyone skips a shift I come in. For almost 6 months I worked 3-11 shifts and overnight 11-7 shifts. I have always gone the extra mile and stepped up when needed. In August I got Employee of the month and that put me in the running for Employee of the year. Well what it basically comes down to is that to choose employee of the year they did a drawing. And I like the guy that won. He's a great guy and does his job well but I just didn't think it was fair. I feel that at the end they just got lazy about it, threw the names in a hat and chose rather than actually taking a look at each person individually and making a decision. Am I just being a sore loser?

Re: Employee of the Year

  • Yes, you are being a sore loser.

If we did this in my office, the same person would win every year which would just piss people off as well, so they probably tried to do something that would make people feel better.

Poo. :( Yeah you're right. Perhaps next year. I really could have used the $250 bonus though. At least I actually like the winner though. lol

  • I agree on the whole sore loser thing.

We did this at one of my old jobs.  There was a different person every month.  And then for the employee of the year they gave it to a guy who really only did what he had to.  He was a nice enough guy, but he had a lot of learning disabilities and people thought he got the gig to prevent a lawsuit.

  • I think it is completely normal to be bummed out about something like this, just don't let it consume you and affect your work performance going forward. Hang in there and keep doing good work--it will get noticed, or you will find better opportunities.
