I need your help. My cat died.

He was hit by a car after he darted out of our house last night.  My friend is taking him to the vet to be cremated for me.  I am getting the ashes back.  If you had your animal cremated, did you put them in a box or urn or something special?  Or what did you do?  I'm so lost.  He was the best cat.  He was my best friend.  He was there through everything with me and I just want to curl up in a ball and i don't know.  I can't stop crying.  I hurt so much.

  • So sorry for your loss.  When we lost out dog in August, we spread his ashes along his favorite walking path so we could walk along the path and feel like we were still taking a walk with him.  I'd have had a difficult time having them in a box/urn on display.  It's so hard to lose a pet.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. I had my pup cremated and put her ashes in an "urn" that was shaped like a box and had a picture frame on the front. So to anyone looking at it, it just looks like a picture frame box.
  • I am so sorry.  When my in-laws lost their dog, they spread his ashes by their favorite hunting lake.  Another friend kept the ashes in an urn and placed a picture frame next to it.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

For my cat, I buried him in my back garden and ordered a little stone with an engraving. It's nice to look out my window and think of him, even though I still miss him so much. :(

  • i am so, so sorry for your loss.

we've decided that when we lose our cats, we will take their ashes and spread them in a "happy kitty" place, like the field near my mom's house that is always full of mice.

We didn't claim the ashes of our cat, but I considered it - I saw some cute pet urns on Etsy. If you just search for pet urn, you can find some really pretty shapes and designs.

  • So sorry for your loss!

When my parents dog died they had him cremated. They put the plastic bag with his ashes in the cookie jar where they used to keep his dog treats. The jar is kept in the family room on a small table next to his favorite sofa.

I know when Sassy passes, I will have her cremated, put her in a pretty box/urn and place it near a framed photo of her.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. We buried our kitties in the garden under their favourite flower plants. If I had their ashes I would probably scatter them in the same spot.
  • I know your pain and it sucks.

I am also waiting for napoelons ashes to come back. I decided not to make any decisions on it.

You also do not have to decide right now. Just because you have the ashes does not mean you have to spread them right away. Or decide on a place to spread them. I plan on just letting Napoelons ashes sit in the living room on a shelf. Im no hurry to decide when or where, or maybe if I ever will spread them.

Just take your time to grieve. Lots of love

    xoxo

  • Oh no :(  I'm so, so sorry.  Pets are like family.  I'm sure he had a wonderful life and loved you very much.

  • I am so sorry for your loss.
  • I'm sorry for your loss.  When our Tillie died, we had her cremated and I bought an urn off of Etsy.  It is a beautiful glass blown urn with a cork top.  I saw it and knew it was "her" and it wouldn't mind having it in my house as it does not look like a typical urn.  I wanted it to look like a piece of art and I truly love it.
  • I am so sorry for your loss.

When Mopar died, we had her cremated and her ashes came back in a beautiful wooden box that was carved on the top with a poem on the back. She is on the mantle, with her collar around the box.
