Best Thing You Ate Poll

Anything scrumptiously delicious that met your lips over the weekend?

For me, it was the taco salad I made on Friday for myself, with homemade salsa and big chunks of avocado.

  • We had the most amazing meal on Saturday.

I had: Cinghiale (wild boar) sopressatta, beef cheek ravioli in a rosemary cream sauce, roasted guinea fowl with purple carrots, swiss chard and polenta, and grapefruit and prosecco sorbetta for dessert.

MH had: Speck, gnocci with wilted rapini and almonds, grilled wagyu sirloin with roasted celery root and guanciale, and tiramisu for dessert.

We split everything (plus two bottles of wine...and cocktails...and cordials) and it was one of the best meals ever.

WOW!!! How was the boar? ( I have never heard of eating wild boar with the exception of Robin Hood.)

Sounds like a pretty fancy meal. You are the queen among peasants.

  • I can't think of a single thing that stands out.  How sad is that?

Wild boar is very common here, since the South is overrun with wild hogs. They are nasty beasts, and it does take a good chef to make them tasty.

I had some chilaquiles verdes deliciosos yesterday morning!

Very good; it's gamey but not overpowering, not very pork-y and dark in color.

  • Oh, I also made what I am calling the Sunday Stoner Milkshake. In blender, combine:

    -two handfuls of ice

    -about a cup of Bailey's

    -a few shots of Jameson

    -about a cup of milk

    -a vanilla cupcake

    Blend. Garnish with pretzel sticks.

LOL, that sounds like a concoction my H would come up with, particularly thorwing the cupcake in there.   I will have to try it, it sounds perfectly delightful for a Stoned Sunday.

Really? I would have never thought. (But the Arkansas college team is called the "Razorbacks" and it looks like a red wild boar so there ya go!)

Chilaquiles verdes is def my fave Mexican breakfast dish! I actually order it when it is not breakfast time if I end up at a restaurant. (one of the only things Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarian friendly) I know you were in green sauce, eggs, avocado, tortilla chip heaven!! LOL!

Wow! The last time I ate red meat it was Venison years ago. Too gamey for my taste.

    Great description!

No, I've only made it once and it was okay... you really have to get the right salsa verde and the perfect white mexican cheese to make it amazing, but they're easy enought to make!

  • Everything I ate from Friday night on was pretty amazing, but I'll narrow it down.  :)

Saturday night I had crispy whole Dover sole with citrus beurre blanc that blew my mind - and that was after the lobster bisque and crab meat cocktail.

Sunday we went to an amazing brunch buffet - they had everything from an omelette station to shrimp, langoustines and caviar.  It was all great!

I probably gained 10 lbs between all the food and booze I consumed!

  • My cousin and her babies came over yesterday, and she just really wanted cake, lol.  So we went to the store and bought a half dozen cupcakes that were delicious.
