Our Waitress

Several of us went out to eat at my favorite restaurant this weekend. The waitress was so bad it was comical. We never said anything mean to her or anything, we just shot each other looks a few times as she walked away. The highlights include:

-At one point we had five bowls of salad dressing (amongst three people) and no food.

-Seven straws for three beverages, she just kept setting another one down each time she'd walk by our table.

-Every food item or beverage that she placed on the table was in front of the wrong person.

-After we'd switch the incorrect item, she would slide it back to the wrong person when she came back to ask how things were.

-She had our orders incorrect. Everything was ordered directly off of the menu.

-She took our glasses to refill and then quit before she brought them back.

-The busboy got us new drinks and ended up being a much better server for the rest of our meal.

Re: Our Waitress

  • I hope she was new on the job, because that is way too many mistakes to make in one day, let alone for one table!

I have a lot of patience for waitstaff since I was one myself for over half a decade, but when things get that bad I would have resorted to letting the management know.  Not necessarily for a discount or whatever but just so they know the service might impact your repeat business, which is very important to restaurants.   I hope you at least verbalized your complaints with a manager, and gave the busboy your tip.    Sorry she ruined the experience.

We heard from the table beside us that she had a meltdown after mixing up a few tables and quit, so we didn't bother reporting it to anyone. I did tip the busboy based on his actions, not hers. And it wasn't a ruined experience by any means, we had a lovely (and comical) dinner!

  • Wow, that's pretty bad!

  • Wow. I would have been really annoyed if my waitress kept moving my plate around every time she came over. That's just weird.

Sounds like quitting was the best choice for her. She's not cut out for that job.

  • who! Definitely the wrong job choice for her.

It was very strange! I can understand getting things mixed up and putting them in front of the wrong people at first, but the fact that she moved stuff we were eating and drinking just pushed it over the edge of ridiculousness.

  • This reminds me of the time I had a waitress that was new at Applebee's.  We kept needing refills, so we asked her to bring us a pitcher.  The problem is that she took my glass away to refill it, but never brought it back.  I let her know what she did and she brought me a new glass, but in the meantime my friends and I had way too much fun pretending I was just drinking from the pitcher itself, lol.
